The Year 1 Treehouse Program

This week Ms Maddison, assisted by Mrs Vawdrey, started the first interactive remote Treehouse classroom. It was a huge success.

Pictured here are some of our eager participants Nathaniel 1C, Aaliyah 1B, Harry 1A, Ed 1C, Oscar 1A, Lily 1D, Josh 1D and Lexi 1A signing the alphabet through cued articulation.

Cued articulation is a set of hand cues for teaching the individual sounds in a word. The hand signals each represent one sound and the cue gives clues as to how and where the sound is produced.

All year 1 students have been developing their skills in using cued articulation, with a greater emphasis being placed on this skill during remote learning.

Well done Year 1 and thank you to Mrs Vawdrey for your expert knowledge in developing our Year 1 Treehouse readers.

Unit of Inquiry

During our Inquiry the Year One students have been exploring the Central Idea “Food goes through many stages of production before reaching us”. This week we looked at Milk and how it gets from the Farm to our Glass. Students also explored the map of Australia and looked at the areas of Australia that are the major producers of Fruits, Vegetable and animals.

Maths

During Maths we have been exploring Australian money and learning to recognise, describe and order Australian coins according to their value. As a challenge this week, the Year One students created their own Lunch Orders using a provided menu. Students chose the items they wished to have for lunch, chose the correct coins and added the total. Well done!

Year 1 Assembly

Last week we had our first Year One Assembly. It was fantastic to see the students navigate their way to the Year 1 Channel on Teams and see the rest of the cohort and teachers for the first time in a while. Our theme this week was to wear a funny hat! We also had a special guest join us…Mrs Anderson!

It was great that the students were so excited to see their Art Teacher and share some of their artwork that they had been working on from weekly Art lessons. We finished the Assembly off with a dance to Dance Monkey, practicing the dance that we are learning in PE. It was wonderful to see everyone standing up and having a boogie together!
