Principal's Chat

Week 9 began with a flurry of activity.  The air was filled with nervous excitement as names were ticked off, medication gathered, bags loaded onto the buses and goodbyes were said.  The Year 5/6's set off  for their camp at Campaspe Downs. It never ceases to amaze me how lucky we are at OLSC to have such beautiful students, students who respect and encourage each other, students who show they appreciate the opportunities they are given and students who willingly challenge themselves even when out of their comfort zone.  These attributes saw our Year 5/6's participate in activities such as assailing, canoeing, archery, the climbing wall, orienteering , team building challenges and raft building. A marvellous time with lots of fun and laughter was had by all. I would like to publicly thank the staff who again went above and beyond to enable the camp to happen, without their commitment and dedication to OLSC these experiences would not be possible.  I would also like to publicly thank the students who attended the camp, it was an absolute pleasure to share the three days with you all, you represented our school and your families with pride.

Staff News:

On Friday we sadly farewell one of our staff members.  Mark is leaving our community to take up a leadership position at another school. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mark for all he has contributed to OLSC and wish him well as he continues his learning journey.

CyberSafety Presentation

Senior Constable Jodie Ebinger visited our Year 5/6 students on Tuesday to educate the students in regards to Cybersafety especially in regards to social media and gaming.  The students were quite surprised by the following facts:

  • the average age of 'gamers' online is 36 years old
  • cyber bullying in any form is a criminal offence
  • your digital foot print can never be deleted
  • use a passphrase - 4 random words - not a password, passwords can be hacked
  • communicate with your families /teachers if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any time whilst online

Expo

Thankyou to our families who managed to see the Health Expo on Wednesday.  Apologies to all who were intending to come on the Wednesday night, we had to make a call when the power went out.   Powercor advised us that they were not expecting the power to be restored until 10pm, hence we cancelled the night expo & staff left the school grounds. We have included some photos of the expo for you to look at.

Headlice

We have had many cases of headlice reported this term.  Holidays is an ideal time to check your child's hair and do what needs to be done to ensure we start Term 4 afresh.  Check out the information below.

Parish Fair

This year the Parish fair is on Saturday, November 16 in the grounds of St Andrews School.

Once again Our Lady of the Southern Cross has responsibility for the Spinning Wheel. We are calling on each family to help build  our stock of prizes by donating new items such as toys, games, homewares, gifts,  tools &  Gift vouchers.  Donations can be left at the school office.

Car Raffle Tickets were sent home last week. Please endeavour to sell your book - perhaps family and friends would like the chance to win a car for just $2.00.  You have to be in it to win it! We would appreciate the return of raffle tickets as soon as they are sold.

All tickets, even unsold books or tickets need to be returned. If books are lost or misplaced a Statutory Declaration needs to be signed & returned in place of the book.

This is our opportunity to work together as a community to support our church and our parish.

Holidays

As Term 3 comes to a close I'd like to thank the staff & families for their continued help and support. OLSC is a very special community, one we should all be proud to be a part of.  Wishing all a safe & happy break from school.  We look forward to seeing you on Monday, October 7.

Cheers

Sandy
