Dear Parents & Community

On Tuesday we welcomed the 2020 cohort of Foundation students to IPS. It was lovely to see so many eager children getting ready to begin their school journey. This was the first of four transition sessions where next year's students get to experience school. Thank you to our Year 5 students who helped them settle in and begin new friendships.

It is on these occasions I am reminded of our mission, vision and values.

School Disco September 6th 2019

This Friday

Session 1 - 5.45pm - 7pm: Foundation to Grade 3

Session 2 - 7.15-8.30pm: Grade 3 – Grade 6

*Grade 3 can choose either session (but not both)

The student disco is coming up very soon and the students are getting excited. Permission can be provided by you on COMPASS. This will enable us to print a list of all those in attendance so we can ring a parent in case of an emergency. While the event will appear in your COMPASS please DO NOT tick attend if your child is not going as this will confuse our processes. Once the Disco is over it will be removed from your feed. Alternatively you can download the form below, fill it out and it will be collected from your child at the door.

The main change is parents can once again come into the hall to get kids settled if needed (like in years gone by). We know some of the younger students in particular may want Mum or Dad to take them in to find some friends, and we don’t want the disco to be stressful for anyone. So if that’s your family, come on along and get them settled. The hall does get busy though, so if you can escape after that or just drop kids at the door (after signing them in) please do so, that relieves a lot of pressure on the night. If you want to stay close by we’ll have a classroom open for you with tea and coffee. Please work with us to keep the event focussed on a great night for the kids, keeping parents out of the way where possible.

Although I will be there please remember these events are run by volunteers (not the school). Please do not take photos of other peoples children.

A Bebras Australia Computational Challenge

Last year, as part of the Digital Technologies program Year 3-6 students participated in the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge. Mr O'Callaghan suggest we put a weekly Bebras in the newsletter.

In the game of "Turning Numbers" you can scramble the numbers 1 to 9.

At the start of every game, the numbers are orientated as shown in the picture on the left.

When you push button A, B, C or D, the numbers around make a quarter turn.

For example: when you push button A, the numbers will be placed as shown in the image on the right side.

Digital Learning Technologies

Signing in at School

All parent helpers, visitors etc. MUST sign into school at the office regardless of being a regular helper or visitor. This is a security precaution and an Occupational Health and Safety consideration as we must always be mindful of who is on site should there be an emergency or a drill.

NAPLAN Year 3 & Year 5

If you child sat NAPLAN this year their report will come home addressed to you this afternoon. Please keep a look out for it in the school bag.

Premier's Reading Challenge Closes Friday (tomorrow)

If you have misplaced your login details speak to your child's teacher or call Francine in the office.

Working Bee Sunday 8th (9am-12pm)

Please come along as there's plenty to do. Mr Bull (Yr 5 teacher) has taken over the coordination of the working bees. We've reduced the number to two per term hoping for a more concentrated turnout. It takes a village.
