Secondary 7/8

Funfields

The end of year trip to Funfields was amazing. Some of our student captured that excitement below:

Brittney; The Cracker ride was the best I slid super-fast through the water.

Josh: The Volcano Wave Pool was so cool, you could jump over really strong waves or get completely wet if you wanted to.

Reshab: I drove really fast around the circuit in my American Go-kart with the red racing stripes.

Jake T: Buying hot chips at the Café was fun because I was really hungry.

Holly: I made Etaoin go on the Voodoo ride with Stef and Vageli. It twisted up higher and higher and did a 360 before dropping down. It was the best ride ever!

Christmas Concert

Our Year 7/8 students had an exciting time celebrating the end of another wonderful year, at our annual Christmas Concert. After enjoying the delicious BBQ our classes performed dances to ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ (SEW & SKH), ‘Extraordinary Merry Christmas’ (SFH, SJH, SSO) and ‘That Power’ (SAL, SVI & SMO). What an awesome evening!

Super Science Experts

This term SEW have been loving all the hands on experiences in Science like Ozmosis seeing gummy bears growing in water, along with making amazing coloured lava lamps and putting pencil in the bag experiment.

What was the best experiment you have done this term? Mitchell: The best experiment I did was pencil in the bag because it was cool the water didn’t come out after pencils were poked all over the plastic bag.

What was the most exciting part for you during science?

Sascha: Making Lava lamps because the different colours were really good and we could take them home.

What was your Science highlight?

Sierra: I loved the pencil in bag experiment, Indiah and I got the most pencils in the bag we got 54 pencils it was amazing to see.

Integrated Curriculum

This term in Secondary 7/8 we have continued with our Integrated Unit Feathers, Fur and Leaves. The program has been student led with SVI voting to make dioramas on their chosen habitat, ranging from desert to coral reef to rainforest. The students researched the type of plants and animals specific to their chosen habitat and filled their dioramas with images found through internet searches and objects foraged from around the school.

Section Assembly

The year 7 and 8 classes have been conducting a student lead assembly all year. It was great for the students to have a voice, and speak about what they had been doing in their classes. Within the previous term we decided to vary the way the students presented what they had been doing, and we had some wonderful power points, student movies and presentation of work.

Special Class Events

SKH had a wonderful day at the Melbourne Zoo to finish and celebrate our learning about ‘Feathers, Fur & Leaves’. We really liked seeing the lion being aggressive by roaring and scratching at the cage. Some people saw the broad headed snakes being excitedly, active. We were disappointed that the platypus, gorillas and orangutans were not on display. We are looking forward to our upcoming end of year activities with great anticipation. At our class Amplify meetings we voted and made decisions together as to what celebrations we would have. We are going to the movies to see ‘The Addams Family’ and having a class Christmas lunch next week and we went to Binnak Park today for a class BBQ – YUMMY!

PreCAL

This term PreCAL classes have been super busy learning all about wellbeing! We have been going out every Monday doing new activities.  Some of our favourite activities have been Art therapy at the Abbotsford Convent, yoga at the YMCA and personal training sessions. We even spent a day at the beach in Torquay flying kites and playing in the sand. SJH and SFH have had a fantastic year, we wish everybody a happy holidays!
