The Teaching and Learning Support Leader will assist teachers and students in achieving the best educational outcomes throughout the year. They will work closely with the year level teachers to plan and implement rich literacy and numeracy activities where students will be both extended and supported. Depending on the students’ needs they will be exposed to a variety of learning environments, such as 1:1, focus groups and whole class activity. The Teaching & Learning Support Leader will work closely with teachers during curriculum and assessment planning, ensuring more support for individual needs.

Learning Enhancement

At Black Rock Primary, we view every child as an individual learner with differing strengths and challenges. We acknowledge that all children need to achieve at their optimum in order to remain engaged.

Through regular assessment and careful diagnosis, we identify students who have gaps in their learning journey and embark on the best path forward to address these challenges. Similarly, students that are high-achieving are identified and provided with extension opportunities and higher order challenges.

We believe it is essential that our “safety-net” identifies students who need extra learning support, particularly in numeracy and literacy. High-achieving students require more than ‘extra work’ – our responsibility to them is to set the academic bar higher.

The Learning Enhancement Team for 2019 are Emily Harvey, Allison Capron, Krystal Frazer and Lyn Pedler.

Student Support

Our Student Support aims to address the needs of students identified as benefiting from individualised learning programs within and outside of the classroom.

Support programs are designed based upon student needs to build upon their understandings focusing upon literacy and numeracy. The Learning Enhancement Team will work alongside classroom teachers to share approaches they can implement to provide individualised learning within the classroom

Enrichment and Extension

High-achieving students will continue to be challenged and engaged through differentiated enrichment programs. These include: personalising the curriculum to respond to learner’s needs, special ability groupings within your child’s classes and their year level, acceleration of content delivered in class, withdrawal programs, lunchtime clubs, curriculum differentiation through changes in pace, depth, complexity and teaching method and participation in National Competitions such as the Maths Olympiads.
