Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 students who auditioned last week for a place in Warrandyte Primary School’s dance team for the 2021 Victorian State Schools Spectacular. All students demonstrated our school values of responsibility, kindness, respect and responsibility by enthusiastically learning a challenging hip-hop routine while supporting and encouraging each other along the way. It was fantastic to see so much dance talent amongst the group – making the selection process very difficult. The final team, including Asher, Charlotte, Charlie, Chelsea, Evie, Harry, Hunter, Izayah, Joe, Luella, Persephone, Sadie, Saskia, Sienna, Tristan and Violette will begin weekly rehearsals from Wednesday, February 24 at 8.10am in the Bampi. Students listed as emergencies are also welcome to attend.

On Tuesday at 1.15pm, the whole school excitedly gathered in front of the red stage curtains in the Bampi to watch the Performing Arts Leaders reveal the title for this year’s whole school musical – “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Junior”. There was an air of excitement as Sienna and Tayah shared a variety of clues - ranging from Samba dancing, a sweets factory and spies - to the seaside, friendship, magic and a flying car! As the curtains opened and the soundtrack played, it was great to see lots of smiles and hear spontaneous applause at the sight of the colourful poster of the old-style car with wings. Year 6 students will now begin the process of learning audition and character acting skills while exploring the script. Although our stage show will be based on the 1965 movie, our production will include some fun new songs and variations on the original characters. The ‘Junior’ script is specifically designed for primary-aged students with age-appropriate characters and themes and a variety of song and dance items. After a year of online learning with few performance opportunities, the students and staff are all looking forward to preparing for our foot-tapping performance on August 27!
