Blackout Poetry

In Year 10 English we are undertaking a genre study on Dystopian Literature. One of the main conventions of this genre is censorship. Students created blackout poems which involved taking a page of text and blacking out all words except a select few. These words formed a poem. Lastly students designed an image that matched the theme of their poem.

Dare to be Different!

In Year 8 English, students are celebrating diversity at Mount Carmel College by embracing what makes them different and unique. They are also exploring concepts such as empowerment and daring to be different. This week, students chose to research a well-known person who broke the mold and dared to be different. These included personalities such as Joan of Ark, Meghan Markle, Dr Seuss, Coco Chanel, Greta Thunberg and Hua Mulan. These were presented to their classmates.
