Thank you to all the students and parent/carers who have signed up to play, coach, manage, umpire, car pool and support sport this term. After school sport is now up and running. It is fantastic to see so many teams representing the College. Good luck to everyone participating!
In team sport, your team mates are relying on you. If a commitment has been made to a team, there is an expectation to attend all trainings and games. Please keep Team Managers/Coaches or mysef informed if anything changes and your child can no longer participate or will miss games. This is the key to making sure there is always enough players for games to proceed.
Secondary Swimming
Swimming has begun for a committed group of Years 7-10 students. Last Wednesday evening these students attended trials at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre along with swimmers from St Mary’s College, St Virgil’s College and Guilford Young College to gather race times in 50m events.
This week, morning training commenced at Clarence Aquatic Centre, which will continue on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for three weeks in the lead up to the SSATIS swimming carnival on Thursday 11 March.
Primary Soccer
Last week six primary soccer teams commenced training, and took to the field for their first JSSATIS games, in very warm conditions on Thursday afternoon. The College has a team in the Year 1/2 Boys roster for the first time and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm.
In the Girls’ rosters, Mount Carmel has one team in both the Year 1/2 and Year 5/6 competitions. Soccer is very popular in Years 3 and 4, with three teams participating. The teams will mostly play at Lower Queenborough, visiting other schools for the occasional away game.
Secondary Soccer
After a bye last week, the Year 7/8 soccer team commenced their season with a game against Fahan at their ground in Lower Sandy Bay yesterday afternoon. The team, being predominantly Year 7, started nervously. Many players hadn’t played soccer for some time, or were playing full field for the first time. Confidence grew after some strong defensive work and well worked passes up the field. Fahan hit the lead early, but shortly after half time, there was much excitement when Mount Carmel scored it’s first goal. Fahan finished strongly to win the match, but the team are looking forward to tackling Collegiate next week.
Secondary Cricket
The Hobart Hurricanes High School Girls Cricket roster commences this afternoon, with two Year 7/8 teams represented. This roster is a new opportunity, with modified rules assisting with the development pathway into SSATIS Girls cricket in Term 4.
