STUDENT ABSENCES

Families are reminded to contact the school if a child is going to be absent. As a school, we are legally required to make note of a student’s absence and the reason for their absence. You can inform the school of your child’s absence by:

  • Submitting an absence via the Flexischools app - look for the attendance button under the 'News' tab
  • Contacting our Attendance & Student Services Administrator directly via extension 291 (between 8.30am-4.30pm).
  • Emailing Student Services via studentservices@bhcs.vic.edu.au
  • If you email your child's Homegroup teacher directly, please ensure you cc in studentservices@bhcs.vic.edu.au

In cases where the School does not appear to have received absence advice, families will be contacted (including via SMS) to inquire about the child’s whereabouts.

COVID-19 INFORMATION

Rapid Antigen Test Distribution

Families would have recently received their Rapid Antigen Tests. Distribution is limited to one pack per student. Where children live in more than one household, families are asked to ensure the tests are shared across both households.

Surveillance Testing

Tests should be conducted twice weekly, on days that suit families – no particular days are prescribed, but we encourage you to select set days when testing at home, such as Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday.

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, have completed their 7-day isolation period and are subsequently asymptomatic do not need to undertake surveillance testing for 30 days.

Students who test positive

If your child tests positive, please advise the school as soon as possible via covid@bhcs.vic.edu.au with the day that they tested positive. They will need to isolate for 7 days. Your child will not be required to get a follow up PCR test.

Positive results should also be reported via coronavirus.vic.gov.au/report or by calling 1800 675 398. Reporting your result ensures that support can be provided to you.

The Government has tips on what to do if you are managing COVID at home. For further information, please click here

There is also a helpful guide on how to do a nasal Rapid Antigen Test. You will find this in the attached PDF.

Negative tests do not need to be reported.

There is a helpful ABC News Article with some tips on how to give your child a rapid antigen test and what to do if their RAT is positive. The article can be found here

COLLECTION OF RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS (RATs)

If you have not yet collected your students box of RATs, they are available from Reception (open 8.30am – 4pm).

Should you authorise collection by someone other than yourself, please send written confirmation of your authorised representative’s name and surname to cchudasko@bhcs.vic.edu.au so we can help facilitate the distribution home to your family.

This year our Wednesday timetables have changed to a four-period day for Middle and Senior school.  Previously Wednesdays had five periods.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB - DISCOVERY CENTRE

Book Club is open, and, now more than ever, its an important and valuable tool to get kids back to reading! Children who read at home (or are read to) have a head start on reading success in school.

The Discovery Centre staff will organise Scholastic Book Club every term this year. The Book Club catalogue has a different selection of books offered for all ages. You’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. The books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $2).

Some year levels received physical catalogues, but even if you didn't it is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to class. For more information, go to scholastic.com.au/parents.

How to Order:

Website: scholastic.com.au/loop

App: The LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play

Return your order form to the DC Staff with the correct money

Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our school.

Orders due by Monday 14th February 2022

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CLASS OF 2021!

We are very proud of what our students achieved under such trying circumstances.  It gives me great pleasure to let the school community know that our Dux for 2021 was Sam R with a very impressive ATAR of 98.60.  Our students preformed extremely well across the board.  96% of our students have been offered their first or second preference for further study.  This does not include the many who have secured employment.  Congratulations again to our class of 2021 and to teachers from Kinder to Year 12 who have worked so hard over the years to support them.
