Changing the Conversation

By Lance Davidson (Deputy Principal)

Welcome to the beginning of the 2022 school year. On Monday we opened the doors to welcome back the first group of students for the year. From our Preps, stepping into their first classroom, to the Year 7’s, entering a new phase of schooling, to the Year 12’s reaching the climax of their school journey. They were all joined on Tuesday by the rest of the school. Students began with mixed feelings about what was ahead.

To begin the 2022 school year, we have a number of new staff, new students and new families joining our school community, all led by a new Principal. However, despite the new faces, there is still the familiar feel of what has made BHCS a school that so many of us love and hold dear to our hearts. Many warm greetings, big smiles, colorful classrooms and the sharing of stories.

All of us are aware of the complexities of what we have to navigate as a school with students coming back during a time when COVID is still affecting so many. It has been hard not to talk about it. But as we start the new year, let’s all commit to changing the conversation and the focus on to helping our young people enjoy all that being part of a good school offers. The chance to build positive connections with caring teachers, the chance to form long lasting friendships and the chance to develop the gifts that God has given them.

Our theme for 2022 at BHCS is ‘The Faith to Serve’. So, as we help the students to become valued members of the school community, we hope that the conversation turns to how they can look beyond themselves, to see the needs of those around them and to making the lives of others better.

We invite you to join us in making 2022 a year that the conversation changes.
