It certainly has been a very different start to the term. I would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding during this time. We have been learning remotely now for four weeks and overall it has been very successful. Well done to everyone involved, as it takes up a fair bit of time and changes to your daily routines. At this stage the department is still maintaining that remote learning will continue for the whole of Term 2, however we will hopefully know more for certain next week around May 11th.

Learning remotely
Information via email and google classroom has been sent to all parents, anytime you would like
some extra clarification and/or support please always contact the school. The main app you need to use is google classroom, which provides you with all your information about the classroom activities. Students will need to check their emails ( g-mail) for Webex connection and individual messages. Connecting to Webex happens each day at 10.00am . These check-ins are both informative and a fantastic opportunity to say hello to everyone. Most students have been able to log on to webex daily.
As you all know the main areas of learning for the next few weeks are:
Maths – Addition and subtraction ( number work) , and will be starting graphing and statistics soon.
Writing- Organisation of thoughts and ideas ( complete tasks ) Personal writing on own topic for 20-30 min per day
Spelling - Competing tasks on personal spelling words and testing at the end of the week on spelling
city app
Reading - Reading at home for 20-30 minutes each day ( if you need more books please drop in at
the school or ring me as MARC van can supply books to the school)
In your conversations with your children you can discussing the reading with your child and have
them make
(1) predictions- what do you think is going to happen and why
(2) travel tracing – where is the book set , different places the book has visited
(3) visualising what is happening in the book – what does different characters or places look like to
you as the reader.
(4) developing questions about what is happening ,where is this book going or why did something
happen.
Serial reader – Reading or listening to the book and completing the task for that section. (This recording is on Google Classroom)

Bluearth Home Learning - Lesson 4 Yr 3-6 Matt
During this time at home with your children, the work and timetable we are giving you is a guide. If some days things don't go to plan or your child is tired and frustrated, or you are, please take a rest and do something different whether it is going for a walk, playing a boardgame, cooking etc. It won't be the end of the world. Please do enjoy this opportunity to be able to spend some extra time with your children and families.
Again, Kate and I are always here, to support you and your children at this time.
