Josh Walsh - Out rigging kayaking
Over the holidays I went to Mooloolaba for the Gubbi Gubi Trans-Tasman and the Junior Nation Titles in out-rigging kayaking. While there I competed in singles, doubles, six- man and twelve-man events, and I achieved four golds, two silvers and two bronze.
I got into the sport through my brother. He started four-and-half years ago, and about a year later I started. I train three to four times a week with the Echuca Moama Canoe Club and I usually go to Queensland to train with my club Gold Coast.
My training schedule is on Tuesdays - I do six to ten k’s, then on Wednesdays I do a little race with the EMCC and on Thursdays I usually do another six to ten k’s and I sometimes do a training session on Sundays.
My goal one day is to make it to the 2020 World Sprints in Hawaii and to get to all the other big events in the next couple years, but 2020 is my big goal.

Visit from RAWA school:
On Monday 12th November, we were very fortunate to have 16 students from a remote school in Western Australia visit our school with their teachers. The students travelled from the Aboriginal Communities of Punmu and Kunawarritji which are situated approximately 200km apart from each other and are 900km away from their nearest town of Port Hedland.
Feeling a little shy about meeting so many new people at once, the students soon warmed up to some new friendships with our own Culture Club students. After a quick couple of games of softball and footy, we shared a barbecue lunch and a quick tour of the school, where the music room produced some great impromptu performances. The RAWA students then entertained us with a really interesting presentation about their school and their communities. It was a fantastic day all around and we were incredibly lucky to have been able to spend some time with these wonderful students. Hopefully, we will continue to build our friendships with the RAWA school in the future, by sharing our school stories and news on a regular basis.
VCE Arts and Technology Expo
On Monday 29th October, the grand opening of our VCE Arts and Technology Expo was held in our beautiful chapel.
The night featured the outstanding creative talents of our Unit 3 and 4 students from Product Design Technology (Wood and Textiles), Studio Arts, and Visual Communication Design. Artworks by our Unit 1 and 2 Studio Arts students was also exhibited.
The opportunity to showcase not only the students’ amazing final pieces, but their detailed folio work was a great insight into the amount of time and dedicated work our students put in during their final year of study. Each student should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Maggie Stewart received the Studio Arts Award for her portrait paintings, whilst Claudia Lee took home the Product Design Technology Award and the Visual Communication Design Award for her fashion pants designs and branding identity/marketing campaign. Claudia was also awarded the Murray Oak Award which will see her designs featured on the Murray Oak College magazine.
