Le Mana Pasifika Program

This year I have worked closely with Temese Leilua and Paora Te Paki who have been leading the Le Mana Empower Pasifika Program.

This program has run for the duration of the year, involving students from Year 7-10. The students have been learning about their culture and identity through presentations, discussions, songs and more. Through this program, students have developed a community event to showcase their hard work.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite our community to the student led celebration.

Student Sporting Achievements

We have a few students who we need to congratulate for their incredible sporting achievements over the last month.

Over the school holidays, students James Ngatoko, Leo Savelio, Carmel Kilisi and Charlotte Poko represented the Melbourne Kangaroos in an international Rugby Competition held in Portugal.

These students competed against teams from France, Nambia, USA, England and Portugal. They put in a massive effort, with the Under 19 Boys coming 2nd in the competition, and the Under 19 Girls winning the Cup taking out first place!

Additionally, Kaiya Kawai Rangikauhata for his fantastic performance in the Interstate Tag 20 Competition held in Canberra this month. His team came 1st place overall!

Congratulations, we are very proud of you all.

House Week

I would like to acknowledge the massive effort put in by our Year 12 House Leaders, Leo, Cass, James, Daniel, Komal, Jared, Liam and Celeste for their preparation, planning and delivery of House Week events.

These students have provided innovative, engaging and fun opportunities for students from all year levels (and staff) to earn points for their House Colours.

Leroy and Stacey our VCAL leaders did an outstanding job leading a problem-solving challenge involving guessing different national flags and demonstrating our college value of Working Together. A special mention is in order for our Staff House Leaders,  Ms Dawson, Mr O’Connor, Mr Cusack and Mr Christiansen for supporting the student leaders with their initiatives and activities.

Thank you for your work and may the best House win!

Staff V Students

The students are attempting to claw their way back on top in our staff vs students competition. Currently the score is 4 to 1, with staff well and truly in the lead.

The schedule is below:

Thursday 23rd May - European Handball

Monday 3rd June -Touch Rugby

Monday 17th June - Capture the Flag

Thursday 27th June - Stay tuned

Here is hoping the staff can stay on top over the next month!

Students on Staff Selection Panel

This Thursday there was an opportunity for a total of 20 students to be involved in Merit and Equity training with myself and Mr Haworth.

By completing this training, these students are now able to participate and have their voice heard in interviews for staff on selection panels.

This provides them with a fantastic opportunity to get involved and contribute positively to our school community. The enthusiasm, engagement and motivation of students was quite humbling, and we look forward to working with them and gaining their input.

Cross Country

On Tuesday the 7th of May was our whole school Cross Country Event. This was planned and organised by the Cross-Country Leadership Team who demonstrated outstanding teamwork and leadership skills.

They ran the event for the duration of the day, timing races, recording results and managing their peers before, during and after events. They communicated effectively, supported their peers and teaching staff throughout and contributed positively to our school community.
