R U OK?

This Thursday (9th September) is the National RUOK? Day. This day isn’t only about raising Mental Health awareness but also a legit opportunity to genuinely check in on each other. This year it is more important than ever that we intentionally check in with each other to see how they are going.  We all know that these lockdowns are impacting us and each other in unique ways. Some are finding things tougher than others.  As a kind and caring community, let’s take the time to intentionally ask someone, ‘R U OK?’ Sometimes all it takes is someone honestly asking us that question to help us stay connected with others and get us through the day.

I would like to encourage each of you this week to intentionally ask someone if they are OK. Some simple steps of what that could look like would be:

  1. Find someone when you both have time and ask RU OK?  Or How are you coping this week with Lockdown?
  2. Be ready to listen to their answer and ask them ‘what’s helping you get through lockdown?’
  3. Respect the other person - if they don’t want to share, that’s fine. If they are doing okay - that’s great! If they are struggling, ask ‘what support they need and where they can find that support’.

That’s all that checking in needs to be and seeing if someone is OK.

Please remember if you are not doing okay, that’s okay. It is okay to not be okay. Just please reach out for support. There is support available for those of us not doing okay.
