Local Paralympian

The Paralympics are being held in Tokyo between the 24 August and 5 September 2021. We have a parent in our school community who will be competing at the Paralympics in the Wheel Chair Rugby. Andrew Harrison belongs to the Australian Rugby Team, “The Steelers’. He has a son Jack in Prep and recently he spoke to all the Prep children via WebEx. You will have seen part of the WebEx in last weeks Virtual Assembly. He spoke about his experiences in the last two Olympic games where the Australian Paralympic team won gold medals at each Olympics.

Andrew explained that wheelchair rugby is an intense, contact team sport played by males and females in eight-minute quarters. To be eligible to compete, athletes must have a significant impairment that affects their arms and legs. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a regulation-sized basketball court. A volleyball is used and it can be carried, dribbled or passed in any way except by kicking. It must be bounced at least once every 10 seconds.

We would like to wish Andrew and, ‘The Steelers’ all the best representing Australia in the Tokyo Para Olympics. Go Australia!

Little Cuddle Bear

Each year when the Prep children start school they use a ‘Little Cuddle Bear’ to help them settle. This bear becomes someone to cuddle if they’re worried, something to ‘fiddle’ with if they need the distraction, and someone to talk to about their feelings. The bear is friendly, and never argues back or tells them what to do!

Click here to download the knitting instructions on how to make a  ‘Little Cuddle Bear’. If can you knit or know someone who would like to knit them for us, it would be very appreciated. Please return any bears to the school office.

Thank you!

The Prep Team
