Random Acts of Kindness

Year 6 Gotcha System

In 2021 at Boronia Heights Primary School, we are acknowledging positive behaviours and choices made by students across the school in various ways. This term, our Year 6s have introduced a ‘Gotcha System’, which involves our senior students recognising peers who are making positive choices by filling out a personalised ‘Gotcha’ ticket. These tickets require the ‘Gotcha’ catchers to identify the value being demonstrated by the student, along with a written acknowledgement of the positive behaviour exhibited.

Tickets are submitted into a ‘Gotcha’ mailbox in the Year 6 classrooms, and the positive behaviour is acknowledged by the students’ teachers and peers within their own classroom during circle time. Whilst this ‘Gotcha’ system was only introduced in the days before Lockdown 6, it was wonderful to see ten instances of positive student actions already highlighted on the tickets.

As we journey through another round of Remote Learning, it has also been delightful to hear students verbally acknowledging classmates during WebEx meetings on positive actions they have seen or experienced during their online learning.

What a terrific effort by our Year 6 students!
