Curriculum

Halo semuanya! While we know that Remote Learning is incredibly difficult, we are extremely grateful for all of your ongoing support! We hope that you spent the weekend recharging and relaxing. Please note that there have been some changes to our Remote Learning Program since the last but our main focus is supporting the wellbeing and learning of Foundation students and families. The new changes include:

  • A set Literacy task on Seesaw each day (approximately 40 minutes)
  • A set Mathematics task on Seesaw each day (approximately 30 minutes)
  • A choice board - students encouraged to complete one task each day

Guided reading was a highlight for everyone last week! We practised identifying the important parts of a story by drawing and writing about the beginning, middle and end of the story. We learned that at the beginning we usually meet the character and learn about where the story is set - the setting. The middle is often a problem and the end is often the solution.

In Writing, we practised choosing our own writing goals by looking for something that we can improve on. Some students are working on remembering to leave 2-finger spaces between each word, while others are focusing on writing lowercase letters neatly, and these are just some of our goals! It was so fun using our character strength ‘Creativity’ this week to pretend that we went to Miss Tossell’s birthday party. Students came up with imaginative ideas and did a wonderful job of drawing and writing about how they celebrated her birthday!

In Maths, students used problem solving strategies like act out the problem, draw a picture and counting on to solve addition problems! It has been fantastic to hear students begin to explain their thinking and the steps they needed to take to add their numbers together! We will continue learning about addition strategies this week online.

In our Wellbeing sessions over the last few weeks we revisited the Zones of Regulation and shared strategies that might help us recognise and manage our emotions. We thought about things that might be difficult or challenging at school, in the classroom and outside at play time. Foundation students are learning to be problem solvers and find solutions to some of these challenges on their own or with the help of their friends!

Student Voice

During our Google Meet check-in on Friday we shared something that we are grateful for. Practising gratitude is an instant mood booster and especially beneficial in tough times like lockdown. We would highly recommend having gratitude conversations at home to reflect on the things that you are thankful for.

  • 'I am grateful for my family, my friends and my teacher' - Anoshka
  • 'I am grateful for friends like Brax' - Finn
  • 'I am grateful for my sister because she helps me make hama beads' Nolan
  • 'I am grateful for my brother because he tells me how to draw different things' Yvon
  • 'I can use craft to make different flags of the world' Jane

Pupil of the Week

FD: Vidya C -

For trying your best in our weekend recount writing task. It was great to see you share something that you did on the weekend during our circle time and then form your letters neatly when copying from a model. Super work Vidya!

FH: Amatullah A -

For working hard on your writing goals during our writing sessions this week. You have demonstrated perseverance by trying your best to neatly write your letters in your new dotted thirds book! Wonderful work Amatullah!

FJ: Ben C -

For demonstrating a love of learning when working on your writing goal. You were able to choose a goal to focus on, practise it in your writing and reflect on how you went with achieving your goal of leaving spaces between your words. Keep up the great work Ben!
