Inquiry Centre

Curriculum
Selamat pagi, families and friends!
It was, as always, another exciting week in the Inquiry Centre. We are incredibly grateful of everyone's flexibility and support around the return to Remote Learning at the end of last week.
In Literacy and Writing we started exploring scripts as part of our Reader’s Theatre focus. Students worked on improving their expression while reading their Good Fit books to a partner practiced taking turns and learning how to properly read scripts in guided reading groups. This gave us an opportunity to explore stage directions, which tell the actors what actions they need to take on stage. Students then partnered up and created their own scripts. We made sure to include a setting, characters, dialogue and added stage directions. The students utilised creativity and zest in coming up with some very interesting situations!
In Maths, students continued to practise their strategies in division with a particular focus on creating arrays to show different ways of sharing bigger numbers. At the end of the week students used the strategies they have learned to help them work out a ‘Chocolate Block Challenge’, in which they found different ways to organise 12, 24 or 36 pieces of chocolate into an array and then share it amongst friends.
Students got to share their ideas on what they like in Wellbeing, then extended those ideas to build the understanding that there are no ‘boys things’ and ‘girls things’, just things that anybody can like! Students made their own ‘Everybody Can Like…’ posters and it was wonderful to see the broad range of interests on show. In Science, we learned that meteorologists study and predict the weather, so we made our own little weather experiments using ziploc bags, water and food dye.
As we move back into Remote Learning, students will now be completing one literacy and one maths set task each day, with an additional Choice Board full of activities. We understand that this can be a stressful time, so please try to find time for downtime and breaks.
Have a fantastic week and we look forward to seeing everybody back at school on Friday!
