Curriculum

Selamat siang! We are so grateful for your flexibility and support during changing conditions to our learning. Our main concern is to support the wellbeing and learning needs of our students in the best way possible and appreciate your communication around this.

Firstly, there have been a few changes to our Remote Learning timetable since last time. The changes are:

  • Students now have one numeracy task (30-45 minutes) and literacy task (45-60 minutes) each day
  • An optional Social Lunch Zoom will be held at 12:30pm each day
  • Students will add a photo of their literacy and numeracy tasks to a Seesaw Activity each day

Beyond this, our morning check-ins and small group Zoom meetings will remain the same. We will continue to endeavour to provide succinct and supportive feedback to student work on Seesaw!

In Literacy sessions last week, students created their own ideas for narrative stories and began working through the writing process. The teachers were blown away by the creativity of our students and were so impressed by the students' commitment to their work. For Remote Learning this week we will be focusing on poetry. A great way to support your children at home before they write is to talk through their ideas with them.

In Mathematics sessions across the week, students explored multiplication strategies including repeated addition and vertical multiplication. We will continue to build these skills further, and begin to look at division strategies this week. In Guided Inquiry, students discussed the use of AusLan to support inclusive communication in our community. We translated letters and words into AusLan at school, perhaps you could continue learning some greetings or common expressions at home too! In Science, we began looking at the forces of push and pull - you may have seen some explanations about this on Seesaw.

We have begun to explore identity in our Wellbeing sessions this term. It was wonderful to see students celebrating differences and similarities between their classmates! As we move into Remote Learning, student  wellbeing is at the forefront of our minds. We understand that learning from home is very different than in the classroom and appreciate your communication when work cannot be completed. We hope that the changes in workload, addition of social zooms and inclusion of break-break suggestions will assist in supporting the daily routine of learning at home. Please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher if you are experiencing any difficulties with the changes to our online program.

Wishing you a fantastic week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
