Grade 5/6 News

Senior students have made a wonderful return to school in Term 4! We are extremely proud of how all students have settled back into life at school and how they continue to demonstrate our 4 school values, it is like they never left!

This term we have been focusing on the impact of bushfires in Australia in our unit on natural disasters. We are currently focusing on poetry in writing, looking at the different structures and language features of the various types. We are looking at fantastic examples of poetry, in particular within our class novel ‘Bindi’, which is a verse novel written by Kerli Saunders .

Students have tied all their learning together while writing their own free verse poem based on the impacts of bushfires, using lots of figurative language, including local indigenous language and using punctuation and line breaks for effect. Their published poems will form our own 5/6A verse novel.

In maths, we have been focusing on Chance. The students are enjoying playing chance games and investigating probability when conducting chance experiments.

In senior school sport, we have been working on cooperation and team work when participating in various team building activities. The students definitely have a new favourite game, ‘Silent Mats’!
