Assistant Principal's Report

Term 3 Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Given the challenges and interruptions to onsite learning caused by COVID-19 lockdowns, we are committed to conducting Parent Student Teacher conferences on Tuesday 31 August.

Conferences will again be run remotely via video conferencing.  Whilst more specific details will be available shortly via Newsfeed, including how to make bookings, it is planned that we will use the Microsoft Teams platform that staff and students are familiar with.

Compass Lesson Plans - benefit for students and parents and carers

The use of Compass Lesson plans is one way that parents and carers can stay abreast of what is happening in their child's classes and have productive conversations about learning at home.  Lessons plans appear on Compass each day prior to 8.30am and feature Learning Intentions and Success Criteria as well as the learning activities conducted in class and related resources.  Having lesson plans available at the beginning of each day allows students the agency to prepare for their classes and to also review learning at the end of the week.  It also supports them with continuity of learning should they be required to miss lessons for any reason.

Senior School Course Counselling

Our current Year 9, 10 and 11 students have been engaged this week in on-line interviews with senior staff about their courses of study for 2022.  Course counselling will continue into next week.

To assist our students to make appropriate pathway choices, the Senior School Team and our Careers and Pathways Team will continue to conduct information sessions and provide individual appointments for students.

GAT

The General Achievement Test (GAT) that involves all students from Year 11 and 12 undertaking a Unit 3/4 subject was scheduled for Thursday 12 August.

Due to the lockdown, the GAT was postponed.

VCAA have given no official notification at this stage regarding a possible rescheduled date for this test.  When we receive advice, we will notify all Year 11 and 12 students via a Compass Newsfeed immediately.

Laptop Orders 2022

The College is currently taking orders for families wishing to purchase a new Laptop device for 2022. Students in Years 10-12 2022 have an option of two devices:

  • Lenovo L13 i5 (cost $1288 inclusive of insurance)
  • Lenovo L13 i7 (cost $1509 inclusive of insurance) for students in Years 10 to 12 2022 only

These devices are expected to be available in December 2021 with the warranty expiring in December 2024. To secure this device for an expected December delivery, an order needs to be placed via the General Office with a non-refundable $200 deposit by Friday 17 September with the balance to be paid on 10 December 2021. The College has been able to secure these devices at existing 2020 prices. It is expected that any orders placed post September 17 may incur a price increase for 2022 and potentially face uncertain delivery schedules due to Covid-19.

The College currently has a limited supply of Lenovo L13 i5 laptops in stock and available for purchase and distribution to students seeking an immediate device. The cost remains at $1288 with Lenovo warranty ending in December 2023. Please contact the office for further information. Devices can be collected upon full payment.

Please refer to Compass Newsfeed for information on each device and associated Insurances.
