Junior School update

Sarah McKenzie and Jacqui Sidaway

Another busy two weeks have passed us by with a range of exciting activities celebrating Science Week and CBCA Book Week. Whilst all this was happening we had a small, but dedicated group of students, participating in the MS Readathon. Our original goal was to raise $500 but over $1200 has been pledged! An amazing effort by all participants, but a special mention must go to Katerina B in Year 3 who raised over $700!

Science Week

It was wonderful to hear about students trying the Food Science Fun experiments at home. A number of students sent in pictures of their super Science efforts.

CBCA Book Week

The Year 6 leaders once again presented an outstanding Junior School assembly; including a Book character ‘parade’ for each year level. Congratulations to the finalists of the colouring competition and a special mention to the winners:

  • JDC – Olivia S
  • Years 3–4 – Alex C
  • Years 5–6 – Chloe B and Amy F.

It was amazing to see everyone dress up and share their efforts with the whole Junior School.

Poetry

Year 1 and 2 are enjoying writing sensory poems and last week described the popcorn popping in the microwave based on their five senses. They wrote descriptive poems and enjoyed eating a large bowl of warm popcorn!

I see a big blue bag of buttery popcorn.
I smell a Friday night at the movies.
I touch the burning, hot bag as it sizzles.
I hear pop, crackle, pop as it bounces around.
I taste the most amazing, salty, buttery popcorn in my mouth.

I see a folded packet of corn kernels inside the miniature microwave.
I hear the popcorn crazily popping inside the unique microwave.
I smell the delicious scent of popcorn inside the paper bag.
I touch the prickly outside of the big amount of popcorn inside the ginormous bowl.
I taste the delicious, mouth-watering popcorn.

Asher in Year 4 also wrote a poem for Book Week called The Special Place:

Long Long ago, Far Far away
in a place that's perhaps still here today
In this place, there are Creatures here and forth
This Special Spot is to the north
Once Humans invaded it
But they now don't dare
To go near there
Because Humans got defeated

Buddies

JDC and Year 6 students came together on Teams to play some games, including Kahoot! It was wonderful to see so many faces on Teams; each student called out a BIG hello to their special friend. It was a wonderful way to finish the school week.

Digitech

Year 6 have been learning about 3D design in their Digitech classes over the past few weeks. Their first project was to create a 3D ball bearing maze. They have designed their maze online and once finalised, we have printed the designs at school. They will be ready for students to collect when they return onsite.
