Music update

Ensembles

Our ensembles have all been hard at work rehearsing on Teams over the term. With the exception of our Percussion Ensembles, all of our groups have been working hard learning new repertoire or refining existing pieces. While we are still unsure of when we’ll be able to perform, we are looking for suitable performance opportunities for when we return to school. I would like to thank all of the students for their hard work and dedication with online rehearsals. I would especially like to thank the Music staff for their hard work in ensuring the rehearsals have been successful.

Solo Soirees

Due to the ongoing nature of the current lockdown the upcoming String and Instrumental Soiree’s will be going ahead over Teams. For any student who would like to perform and hasn’t already submitted a form, please email Ms Dixon Lawrence for the String Soiree or Mr Blakiston for the Instrumental Soiree. A Teams invite will be sent out next week to the performers registered to perform, along with their parents:

  • String Soiree Thursday 9 September 3.30pm
  • Instrumental Soiree Friday 10 September 3.30pm

Spring Concert

Unfortunately, due to the lockdown the Spring Concert has been cancelled for 2021. I am looking at potential performance opportunities for ensembles in Term 4.

Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to keep up your hard work practicing your instrument. While in lockdown it is certainly an exercise in perseverance, however, one that our musicians are very familiar with. Whether working towards an AMEB exam, a soiree performance, the school musical or mastering a new piece for an ensemble, all require a modicum of patience, determination and grit. All of which are particularly useful attributes to have while learning in lockdown. So, while we are looking forward to seeing everyone in person soon, keep up the hard work, and I’m looking forward to hearing your next performance.
