Easter

Each class has celebrated Easter upon returning to school last week. Easter is such an important time in our Church’s liturgical season to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Our school celebrations included a fantastic prayer service led by the Preps.

ANZAC Day

God of love and liberty, we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war. We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come. That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth. This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mini Vinnies Commissioning

On Wednesday 3 May, we had our Opening Term Mass and Commissioned our Grade Six Social Justice and Community Leaders as Mini Vinnie Leaders.

This is an exciting occasion when we commission our Mini Vinnies as members of the St Vincent de Paul Society. The Society was started so that people of all ages might live out the Gospel message by helping others in need. Blessed Frederic Ozanam and his young friends started the Society in Paris almost 200 years ago when they were students themselves. They named it after St Vincent de Paul who is the patron saint of charity. There are now almost 1 million members worldwide.

Primary school members of the St Vincent de Paul Society meet in groups called Mini Vinnies. They meet to increase their awareness of the issues faced by those experiencing disadvantage, to reflect upon the connection between faith and action, and to help those in need within their school and local community.

We congratulate our new Mini Vinnie Leaders for 2023: Miller H, Luke R, Olivia W, Andy D, Natalie M and Liam S.

"As a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society Mini Vinnies I commit to making a difference in my world, to loving and respecting myself, to reaching out to others in my school and community through friendship and doing good works"

Term 2 Curriculum

This term, all students Prep - Grade 6 are learning about Our World. This overarching concept can be explored in many different ways. While this links to our Prep – Grade 6 Inquiry topic of Biological science, links can also be made to sustainability in terms of God’s creation. We are all part of God’s creation, created in His image. Students are invited to consider how we show respect for one another. Our natural world is also a creation of God that we have a responsibility to care for and sustain for others to enjoy. Students are asked to reflect on their practices and the impact on creation.

Class Participation in Mass

As we begin Term Two, I'd like to draw your attention to opportunities for our Grade 3 and 4 students and their families to celebrate Mass at OLA.

Each Grade 3/4 class will have the opportunity to participate in a Mass and lead the readings and prayer on this day. The dates are as follows:

  • 3/4ST - Wednesday 10 May 9:15am
  • 3/4TR - Wednesday 17 May 9:15am

After these classes participate in Mass, there is an opportunity for the students and families to share in a morning tea in the Church meeting room. We ask each family to bring a small plate of food to share.

Please reach out to your child's class teacher or myself if you have any questions.

ECSI Survey Gratitude

Thank you to those families who completed the Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) parent surveys last term. Your responses will assist us in better understanding how our Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice here at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Primary School. Thank you again!

All participants were entered into a lucky draw for a $50 book voucher. We congratulate Steph Murphy (Issy 3/4ST) who is our lucky winner!
