Endeavour House News

For the second part of this term, Endeavour House has enjoyed dinner with Breaksea House each Tuesday. It has proved to be a really popular initiative by Mr Ashley Keatch, and a great way to break up the week. In addition, on Thursday nights, Mr Samuel Forward and I have been encouraging ‘conversations’ between Endeavour House and Anchorage House. Mixing up seating, playing games and setting challenges have been introduced to help develop the students’ conversational skills. It’s early days, but I believe that all the students have learnt something about themselves and/or somebody else this term, through conversation. I’d like to remind the students that a good conversation also involves listening (!) Sometimes people are ‘talking over the top’ of others and the dining hall has been very noisy! Not to worry, we’ll keep working on that. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the catering staff for their delicious, healthy and diverse meal options this term and for their friendly smiles at every meal service.

Recently, I've been talking with the girls about their online presence and responsibilities. We have discussed how the online world forms such a big and important part of everyone's lives. Also, how can it be used to drive so many good things, thoughts and feelings, but on the other hand, it can also isolate and upset us. We talked about the trap of ‘disinhibition’, where we feel power in our anonymity and behave in ways [online], that we wouldn't normally [face to face]. I was struck by the girls’ openness and honesty in discussing this topic. I thank them for their consideration and trust they will continue to be respectful and thoughtful digital citizens.

GSG Boarding has said goodbye to the Cherry girls! All of Endeavour House will miss Audrey and Ingrid – especially their smiling faces, quick wit and happy personalities. All the very best to Colleen, Andrew, Audrey and Ingrid. We look forward to seeing you at the day school, you are all welcome to come back and say ‘hi’ at boarding, any time.

As we head into the Easter break, I’d like to encourage the girls to cherish their time with their families and friends. Connect, reflect, see, listen, ask, know and do things in the world. Live life in overflowing abundance!
