Holiday reading
As always, we strongly encourage all students to continue to read over the school holidays. Research states that 60 minutes of reading a day will help a child to achieve, on
average, in the 98th percentile for their age. This means reading over the holidays as well. Perhaps it’s 30 minutes before going to bed, or 15 minutes of downtime in the sunshine. It could be reading to a younger sibling or trying a new and more challenging book. The important thing is to be reading for enjoyment and building a strong vocabulary in the process.
We hope that our older students from Years 3-6 take the time to read independently over the holidays. Our younger students may need a little more support when reading, but we still encourage daily reading for all our students. Parents, please encourage your child/ren to find some time for reading, as it will lead to better life outcomes.
Twilight Sports
Last week we held our annual Twilight Sports at Capital Reserve in Glen Waverley. We had a great turn out with many of our students attending the event. A big thank you to Mr Cam
Stillman for organising Twilight Sports, our staff for running the events, and the student leaders for their assistance on the night. Thank you to our parent community for bringing your child/ren along and supporting this event in such great numbers. I know that the students really enjoyed having you there, cheering them along.
A big thank you to all those who purchased raffle tickets. We raised $850 which is a great result. Congratulations to the winners – we hope you enjoyed the hampers. Thanks to Kim Doan for helping to source the prizes!
Thank you to Mrs Humphries
Mrs Jane Humphries starts her maternity leave from the start of term 2. We wish Jane and her family all the very best as they prepare for their new arrival. Jane has been a fantastic staff member and the students, staff and parents will all miss her while she is on leave. Thank you, Jane!
Sarah Martin will replace Jane in 1K on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Karen Watts will teach 1GH on Thursdays and Fridays for term 2.
Basketball and netball courts
It is anticipated that the resurfacing of the basketball and netball courts will be completed in the first week of the holidays, ready for the start of term 2. This means that there will be workers onsite over the holiday period. If you are using the school grounds, which we encourage all families to do, please be aware of this and be safe.
Term 2
Please be aware that term 2 starts on Monday, 24th April. The following day (Tuesday, 25th April) is a public holiday, and students will attend school again on Wednesday, 26th April.
Enjoy the Holidays
Finally, have safe and happy holiday period. If you need supervision over the break, bookings for the holiday program can be made online via the Camp Australia website.
If you and your family use our school grounds during the holidays and see any suspicious activity, please call DET Emergency Management 9589 6266 or Glen Waverley Police 9566 1555 or 000.
