Happy Mother's Day
Dear Parents and Carers
We hope you have had a warm and dry week! There's been lots happening here at St Michael's this week, namely our Year Five/Six camp to Sovereign Hill. No doubt there were a few quiet households on Monday and Tuesday evening, and possibly moreso last night! Enjoy the rest this coming weekend!
Monday 15th May - Year Three to Year Six Cross Country event, 9-11am - wear sports uniformFriday 19th May - Year Five/Six G Assembly, 2.40pm in the Hub
Please note that weekly Parish mass times will now be located each week on our School Hours / Timetable page in our newsletter.
This most beautiful prayer was shared at our Women's Brunch last Sunday. It's a timely reminder of what life can be like and how important it is to be mindful of weathering those storms and taking time to be grateful when we can.
Thursday 18th May, 10am.
This mass will no longer take place next week due to a variety of circumstances. We hope families have been able to attend class masses when they are happening.
A tremendous morning was had last Sunday, 7th May, at the Annual Women's Brunch. It was a fabulous opportunity to meet other women in our community and to spend time together. We had the marvellous opportunity to hear Dr Magdalena Simonis, a GP and Government Health Advisor, Board Director and Researcher with Melbourne University. Magdalena spoke to us about women's health and the many ways in which we can circumvent health issues in proactive ways. A fabulous morning and a huge thank you to PFA members Liz Fida, Elle Horbury, Lourice Sonego and Therese Molnar for their organisation of the event.
Despite the cold weather, all the campers bravely continued to enjoy their time away at camp!! Fortunately the rain was minimal and we got through the three days completely dry! We attended various structured sessions while on camp ~ mine visits, candle dipping, gold pouring and confectionary making. We had lots of free time also to investigate the huts and houses of the gold rush era and also panned for gold. We learned about the Eureka Stockade and the lives of the miners with the hardships they endured. We also had the chance to see what a schoolroom was like in the 1800s and what equipment they had for learning. An education for us all. A huge thank you to Mr Stent for his detailed organisation and communication for this camp, also to the Year Five/Six staff: Ms Jess Casey, Ms Katrina Balzat and Mr Paul Mitchell for their work in preparing the students and leading the groups. Thank you also to Owen Mahoney and Mrs Eloise Ellis for their support of all the activities and the students.
Next Monday, 15th May, all students in years three to six will be involved in our St Michael's community Cross Country event. Students may wear their sports uniform on this day. A path will be set out for the students at Warner Reserve and staff and parents will be stationed around the track to support and encourage students along the way. Students will then be selected from their performance in our local event to enter the District Cross Country event, occurring on Tuesday 23rd May. Your child will receive notification about this if they have been successful. We wish all students well.
On Saturday 20th May, from 9.00-11.00am, we will be holding our next School Enhancement Session. In this session we will be working on the following tasks:
We ask that you please bring with you: gardening gloves, secateurs, sheers / pruning tool, metal brush, metal scraper, hammer.
If anyone has a hedge trimmer which you are happy to bring and use yourself, please let Annie Herbison know. Thank you
Details for signing up will come through Operoo. Please keep the date free.
We look forward to welcoming 3 and 4 year old kinder children to our Kinder Kids Reading Sessions. Please tell your friends and neighbours and please also bring along a friend from your child's kinder! Many of our students will be involved in preparing for and taking part in these sessions:
Year Six students - Serving refreshments to parents while children are reading
Year Five students - Reading with Kinder Kids
Year Four students - Baking sweet refreshments for parents and kinder kids
Year Three students - Selecting picture books to read and making small gifts for the Kinder Kids
It's a whole community affair! See you there.
