Athletics Carnival: Sinai House Soaring Ahead!

The weather couldn't have been more cooperative for our Years 3-12 Athletics Carnival, fueling the excitement of the participants.

Our students showcased their remarkable skills, sprinting, jumping, and throwing their way to victory. It was wonderful to see the students dressed in an array of outfits and costumes in support of their Houses.

A big thanks to our enthusiastic students, dedicated staff, and spectators whose support made this event unforgettable. A special mention goes to Mrs McLaren for taking on the role of Chief timekeeper on the day.

Sinai House currently sits on top of the leaderboard, but with some events still to come back at school, the suspense continues. Stay tuned for the final points update and Age Champion announcements later this term.

K- 2 Mini Athletics

While the older students were at their Athletics Carnival last week, the students in K-2 held their own mini athletics at school. What a wonderful time everyone had!

Zippy Zone Cross Country Capers!

On Friday 5 May, 29 primary students from NCS made their way to Willandra for some fun in the sun as they took part in the annual Zone Cross Country. Blue skies shone above a surprisingly firm track, given the quite recent rain. These near perfect conditions made for fast races with some past records not just broken, but smashed!

Our 8/9 Year girls led the way with the first race of the day, followed by their counterparts, the boys. We didn't have to wait long for an NCS podium finish, as Sam K came home with a wet sail in 9.09.00, only 1 second behind first place, both runners breaking the previous record by about 13 seconds!

Next up was the 10 year olds and the girls didn't disappoint, taking a podium clean sweep of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places! Penny J just pipped Tianna K by less than a second and Addy G finished in 3rd, with all three girls breaking the previous record. Penny now holds that record with 9.37.66, almost 22 seconds faster than the previous record. Wow!

The action didn't abate in the 11 year old division with Toby G running his 3 km race in 12.53.00 for a silver medal 2nd position. Sienna L-S was just outside medals positions for the 11 year girls race finishing in a very credible 5th place.

For the last race of the day, the 12 years boys, Mitchell P ran a terrific race to finish in second place in a time of 12.43.41.

HUGE thanks go to all our parent volunteers who helped make the events possible by spending time on checkpoint duties: Mr James Croft, Ms Rebecca Junor-Cook, Mrs Adrienne Varga and Mrs Kimberley Preston. Thanks to all the other parents who took time away from their busy routines to support their children and our wider school team. It was a marvellous atmosphere, filled with good humour and a sense of fun.

Congratulations to all of our excellent runners, especially those not named here. You have all made it through to the CSSA State Cross Country event in Sydney on Friday of Week 5.

CSSA Zone X-Country: Great running by all

The CSSA Zone X-Country event was held on a beautiful autumn day at the Willandra X-Country track and it proved to be a memorable day for all the participants. The event brought together some of the most talented young runners from various schools across our sporting zone.

All of our NCS runners put up an impressive performance, displaying great endurance, speed, and stamina. Many runners achieved personal bests and others showed great improvement from their previous performances.

Super Sam Hits Hockey Heights!

by Sam L, 5P

On Monday 8 May, I went all the way to Sydney to try out for the CIS Primary boys Hockey team. I was a bit nervous but the organisers were very nice and wanted us to have fun.

We started the day with some warm up exercises followed by some drills to test our skills. Then we were split into teams to play some games which was my favourite part! I love playing in the forward positions where I can score goals or assist my teammates to get a goal. While we were playing, we were being watched by four selectors, one was a former Kookaburra (Australian Men’s Hockey Team)! They were looking at our skills, knowledge of the game, teamwork, attitude and fitness.

After lunch they announced the team selections and I was so happy when my name was called out and I had made the team! Now, I will be going to the NSWPSSA Championships in Tamworth held over four days starting on Tuesday 30 May. I am so excited I get to play more hockey and I hope to learn a lot from the competition.

Amazing AFL

Who knew our Stage 2 students were so talented on the AFL field? NCS students in Years 3 and 4 played in small teams against other local schools on Monday of Week 3 at Nowra Showground. The fitness and ball skills of students were excellent, and all players were supportive of their teams. Despite the cold, windy weather, we saw excellent enthusiasm and wonderful willingness from all participants. Well done!
