Alumni News

Wednesday last week saw BSC host our first Alumni session for our Year 9/10 and VCAL students. The session focussed on the ins and outs of apprenticeships and working in the trade industry and was a great way for students to find out more about potential career pathways.

Our alums talked us through some of their career highs and the road they took to get to where they are today, discussing everything from apprentice wages and workplace challenges, to the less exciting roles they have undertaken since leaving school. The information gave an invaluable insight into work life and the different aspects of  working in a trade.

Long hours, balancing study and work and finding your feet in the real world are things we practise daily as adults, however it can be a steep learning curve for school leavers. Opening students' minds to the possibilities and encouraging them to become hands on learners were important factors of the session.

It was a fantastic glimpse into the trade industry and we would like to thank alums, Tori Chester, Alex Thorpe and Ryan Day for taking time out from their busy schedules to attend the session and support our students. It was greatly appreciated by all involved.
