Diya Bhengra

This year, our school had a musical performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Diya Bhengra, a Year 11 Browning student portrayed the spoiled child called Veruca Salt - a Russian, over the top, little brat.

Diya claims that the practice towards the performances was very stressful and time consuming but she would definitely do it again if she had the opportunity. She had a great time socialising throughout the different age groups with people of similar interests. She especially enjoyed bonding with the dancers as her character involved some ballet.

Diya found it a challenge to act as a Russian. She states that it was very hard to dance, sing and remain in character at the same time. She also found it difficult to become another person while still maintaining her own talents and skills.

Diya found it very nice to take a break from her schooling life to go and perform at the Civic Theatre - “It was nice to get the stress and pressure of Year 11 out of my mind.”

On the very first performance, Diya didn’t feel very prepared but she says that each time they performed there was a constant improvement. “By the last night, we were giving the audience energy, and they gave it right back to us.”

Natalie Bonetti

Need help with studying? Procrastinating with your homework and assessments?

Natalie Bonetti, Year 9 Prefect, always endeavours for excellence in her work. In her own time she studies with Jacaranda notes and sheets from class. Natalie follows a structured study timetable. She completes the homework she likes the least first then the homework she enjoys, like textiles. For Natalie to remember her homework she writes notes on her computer.

Natalie strives to show herself and what she is capable of. She tries her hardest and focuses on her work. To stay focused in class Natalie asks questions when she finds herself confused. She focuses on her work and gets help when need be.

Nidhin Sebastian

Over the year, Nidhin who is a student in Browning has participated in many sporting events. He represented the school in the Bill Turner Cup, which is a soccer tournament against other schools in Wagga. Their first game was against Wagga Wagga High. They lost but played really hard.

He also participated in the soccer gala day in Term 3. The team came out on top, tying the first game against Mater Dei Catholic College. Their next game was against Kildare; they won 2-0.

In their game against Mount Austin, they came out on top winning 6-0. They qualified for the finals and played Mater Dei again. They were losing but won in penalties. Nidhin said, “he felt the team improved throughout the Gala day”. He felt the more games they played together they communicated better and played better together, overall.

Nidhin is one of the students in Browning that has excelled in sporting events showing the school what Browning spirit is all about.

Faith always comes up and compliments you, whether it be “I like your earrings” or “I like how you did your hair today”; Faith is always upbeat and happy.

Faith loves being in Browning because she likes our house leader (Ms Kelly). She loves how all of the students in Browning work together as a team. Faith’s favourite thing in Browning is her friends.

She said that she “Has made so many friends in Browning” and that she is always making more. Faith is an excellent role model for all of Browning to follow, we commend Faith on all the achievements that she has accomplished and is still to pursue in Browning.

Blackwell

Another term has flown by, and things have been busy in the Blackwellian community. Term 3 brings to a close all things Year 12 (besides their final examinations), and we have been very lucky in Blackwell to have an amazing team of Year 12 leaders that guided us through this year. Each and every one of you have been an asset to this House (and our College), and all of us wish you the best of fortune for your final exams and beyond.

Blackwell House Day is on Thursday October 13th, which is Week 1 of Term 4. Blackwell is affiliated with the Multicultural Council of Wagga Wagga, who do an absolutely outstanding job of welcoming and assisting new arrivals into our community from all over the world. As our fundraiser for this year, we are asking for any old or unused electronic tablets and chargers to be donated to the Multicultural Council. These will be repurposed to be used as learning tools and to assist all newcomers in building their new lives in Wagga. The tablets would be used to assist with their learning of English as another language, to guide them in applying for jobs and to help teach families in general about their newly adopted culture. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you don’t have an old tablet lying around, a donation for mufti day will help in buying some new tablets for the Multicultural Council to use.

Of course, we can't have a Blackwell Day without a party that is also an amazing community service. Fusion Botanical is on Saturday October 15th at the Wagga Botanical Gardens. From food vans to live music and DJ sets, Fusion is an amazing mix of sounds, tastes and smells (there is a Spotify playlist titled ‘Fusion Wagga’ to give you a taste of the talent on show), and with the new location being in the Wagga Botanic Gardens there is no better place to immerse yourself in the diverse culture we have on our doorstep. It is free entry, and we encourage everyone to go and have a great time.

Until next term, take care and have fun.

Fox

It has been a busy term for our Fox family! We have expanded with Mrs Passlow bringing a beautiful baby boy, Hugo, into the world in Week 5. This left Miss Tyson to take temporary custody of the house while Mrs Passlow is on maternity leave.

Our house has had the opportunity to tap into their competitive nature through a number of different avenues in Term 3. One of the big highlights was our resounding victory over Stanley House in Family Feud. We have also had an intense internal House Challenge over the past 10 weeks with students gaining points for their mentor groups based on their classroom commendations and through handball, catching and Oreo challenges. It was a tight competition with each week bringing in a new leader. Congratulations to Miss Taylor’s FOX2 mentor group who managed to secure the most amount of points across the term. As a reward, they will have a Fox Feast early in Term 4.

As this term draws to a close, we find ourselves farewelling our Year 12 cohort of 2022. Our Fox students include Riley Aplin, Braydon Armour, Liam Bevan, Harrison Green, Clayton Gunning, Tom Howard, Emilia Kelly, Paddy Malmo, Adam Morrow, Luke Naumann, Riley Power, Sarah Puntoriero, Shehnoor Sidu, Casey Smith, Shannon Speers, Megan Wallace, Tahlia White and Michael Woodgate. Sheppard

With mixed emotions we farewell Year 12 Sheppard students this week - we are both sad that they are leaving and excited for each of them as they prepare to sit their final examinations and embrace opportunities beyond school. We thank our House Captains, Samantha and Tayarni, for their leadership and service. Good luck and best wishes, Year 12!

This term, on 5 August,  we celebrated Sheppard House Day. Students were asked to wear green and bring along a gold coin donation to support Landcare. We set up an information stall at lunch time outside the library with brochures and giveaways. $480 was raised and will be used to purchase supplies for our students to construct native bee hotels and nest boxes for use by Wagga Wagga Urban Landcare.

During Mentor Group time we have continued to actively build relationships, whilst participating in both wellbeing and fun activities. RUOK Day provided an opportunity to brainstorm different ways to check in with a friend after asking if they are ok. It was emphasised that there is no right answer as it will change for each individual. Checking in and showing you care is the important thing.

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact either your child’s Mentor teacher or myself and we will be happy to assist. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to seeing you all again in a couple of weeks for a very busy Term 4!

Stanley

As always Term 3 has been a busy time of year - we have celebrated Stanley House Day with our Junior School embracing the opportunity to dress up for Book Week. There were some fantastic costumes in both campuses and a sea of blue in the playground. Thank you for your generosity.  We collected $768 which will go to Riverina Bluebell who raise awareness of mental health in our Riverina community and is our House charity.

Congratulations to the Stanley House Day award recipients; awarded to students who demonstrated our house values “being kind and caring”.

Willsher

Term 3 has been another busy term for Willsher students. Once again, it has been a pleasure to observe Willsher students excelling in different aspects of College life. At the start of the term, I was impressed by the students who contributed to the College Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not only did we have Willsher students performing, we also had students playing integral back stage and front of house roles for the duration of the performances. Congratulations to all students who were involved!

Academically, it has been a very busy term for all of our students. During the school day, students have been working diligently on a variety of examinations and assessment tasks. Our Year 8 and Year 10 students have also been selecting their subject choices for next year. These choices present a wonderful opportunity for our students to further explore areas of interest and I look forward to following the academic achievements of Willsher students next year in their chosen subjects. Outside of the classroom, we have had a number of students represent the College in co curricular academic pursuits such as the Tournament of Minds. Well done to all of the Willsher students who have demonstrated their knowledge inside and outside of the classroom this term.

Finally, we have said farewell to our Year 12 graduates. These students have been an important part of their Willsher Mentor Groups and we will miss them immensely. Thank you, in particular, to Grace and Olivia, who have been outstanding House Captains of Willsher this year. We wish all of our Year 12 students all the best as they prepare for their final examinations.
