Mindfulness Mornings at St Agnes’

This term at St Agnes’ we have introduced Mindfulness to start our school day. It encourages a calm, orderly learning environment and promotes focus. Once the bell rings at 8.45am and students enter the classroom they are invited to join their teacher and classmates to participate in mindfulness for 5 minutes.

Students have embraced our new start to the day and have been trying different forms of Mindfulness. Students have been sitting in a circle using the expanding sphere to help regulate their breathing, lying on the floor listening to a guided meditation, mindfulness colouring and using glitter jars to focus our attention on breathing.

Starting our day with Mindfulness is promoting students to:

  • calms the mind and body
  • increases focus and attention
  • increases ability to learn
  • reduces reactive behaviours
  • develops self-awareness
  • lessens anxiety and stress
  • develops self-management of emotions
  • teaches life-long coping skills
