Uniform

Students have now been reminded on farm numerous times about the expectation of being dressed in correct work clothes and PPE required for Farm. As per the Guidelines, I have outlined a few major ones below that have been communicated in morning roll call for students to follow. Compass reports will be written from now on for students who do not meet this fundamental work-related expectation.

Dress Standards & Safety Equipment

  • All students are required to wear high viz farm clothing as per clothing list.
  • College farm work clothes consist of neat clean trousers and shirts, jumper or college jacket, free from tears or rips.
  • Broad brimmed college bucket hats are compulsory during terms one and four.
  • Long hair needs to be always tied back and if necessary, secured with a hair net.
  • Students must bring their own personal issue safety glasses to farm.
  • Sunscreen is provided at the farm workshop and students are encouraged to make regular use of it.
  • No mobile phones on farm (students).  The phone will be confiscated and stored in the college safe.

Weekend Duty

In the next few weeks, students will be given the opportunity to nominate for their weekend duties for 2023. Please ensure all students have there calendars ready to pick the weekend duty they would like.

Just a reminder, that swapping a weekend roster is strongly discouraged but in the event this situation arises, students must give a valid reason, two weeks’ notice to myself and finding another student to replace them.  Students and parents have access to the roster through daily notices, Farm noticeboard, College Chatter, via email and parents can also access the information in the fortnightly College Chatter.

There have been a few students who have not been able to complete their rostered weekends, please don't leave it too late to rebook or you will be back in Term 4 of 2023, alone, completing weekend duties (no one wants this).

Third Party Reports

We have spoken to the Year 11 students in registered training organisation (RTO) class regarding third-party reports being completed over the summer break. Please get in contact with me if you have the opportunity to complete some third-party reports over the break.

The third-party reports are evidence towards the students Certificate II in Agriculture practicals. I will send the what the requirements are out via email and we also need video evidence that support the paperwork. I recommend purchasing a USB and putting all evidence on the USB each night or week to bring back to the College on their return.  If any students are interested in completing these reports, please see me before the end of term.

Certificate III Notification

All 2023 submissions for selection of Certificate III courses have been sent out to students. The selection process takes into consideration of the below factors:

The College offers Certificate III in Agriculture, Advanced Wool Handling and Pork Production.  Due to the rigour, workload and theory component associated with Certificate III level, in order to be selected for Certificate III, students need to:

  • Demonstrate high level organisational skills and be able to work independently.
  • Be awarded “Consistently” or “Often” on their attitude/behaviour/effort indicators on their school report.
  • Met minimum Literacy and Numeracy benchmarks in Year 11.
  • 95% attendance (exempting reasonable cause absences).
  • Be prepared to commit to completing theory outside of school hours (prep, weekends, holidays etc).
  • Access off-site industry experience (self-arranged), targeting specific Units of Competency for additional workplace experience and exposure (undertaken outside of school hours). A minimum of 5 days is required at a College-endorsed workplace.
  • Return in Term 4 upon request (subject to completion).
  • and if an ATAR student, demonstrate solid progression in their ATAR subjects.

Forms are due Friday: 28th October 2022

Upcoming Events

All students will complete:

  • St John's Training to achieve their HLTAID011 Provide First Aid unit.
  • Rural Fire Awareness Course.

Next week, Mr Laird, Miss Martini and all the students will be competing in events at the Dinninup Show and Boddington Show. The results to be announced in the next College Chatter.
