Showing gratitude

Make gratitude your attitude’ was the theme for the beautiful prayer of the Examen conducted at our staff professional development day this week. Ms Lumley, Ms Murphy and Mr Sims led our reverent start to term. Last weekend’s Gospel referenced only one of the ten men cured of leprosy returning to give thanks.

It’s good to remember that, at the time of Jesus, there was no cure for leprosy or Hansen’s Disease. Once a person contracted it, life became something of a living death. How could it happen that nine of the ten lepers were not able to express gratitude?

Our reflection encouraged staff to consider a modern-day interpretation. Perhaps some of the men cured had family commitments, others were busy returning to work and maybe others had social engagements or financial matters requiring attention. In our busy lives it is easy to forget to express our thanks.

At the end of the Examen we were invited to spend a few moments with God:

  • To express gratitude
  • Or ask for new insight or strength
  • Or just sit at peace

Sharing with God whatever is on your heart is a beautiful way to commence the term.

In the coming weeks, there will be delightful ceremonies to celebrate and congratulate our Class of 2022 on their contributions to the College. We give thanks for the people they are, and the gifts and talents they have provided.

Similarly, we entrust our students retain gratitude and respect for learning. Part of our messaging will be encouraging students to reach out and thank those who have made a significant contribution to their educational journey. We wish our Year 12s and all students well for a successful term ahead.

We also extend our best wishes to two new staff members:

  • Ms Katrina D’Annunzio – Primary Education Assistant
  • Miss Erin Basile – Science Teacher

Service to Catholic Education in Western Australia

We want to congratulate Jim Miller for 50 years of service, Shane Glass for 40 years, and Jo Daniele for 30 years of service to Catholic education in Western Australia. Thank you for encouraging students to discover their abilities and explore their potential while helping them to embrace Christian virtues and learn to know, love and respect themselves and others.

It is great to celebrate our staff as well as our students.
