What’s happening in the library in term 2?

Lots of things!

“Name the Grade 5/6 corner” competition!

Our amazing new library space includes a “Senior” corner exclusively for the use of our Grade 5 & 6 students (and teachers!).

We want YOU (that is, this year’s Grade 5 & 6 students) to name the corner!

Both year levels will vote for the winner, from a shortlist of entries. The winning entry will be made into a wall sign for the corner, and the winner will also get to take home a prize. Further information will be given to students in class, and during assembly early in Term 2.

Book Fair May 15th-19th

Term 2 brings with it the annual Lamont Book Fair!

This will again be running for a week in May, including for Kalinda Open Night, and we can’t wait to see kids and families coming through the new library space to find their perfect book. Every sale at the Book Fair earns a commission for our school which we can spend on new books and resources for the library and the school.

National Simultaneous Storytime May 24th

We continue our love of reading and books on May 24th, with National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)!

NSS is held annually by the Australian Library & Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by Australians is selected by ALIA, and is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, and homes all over the country and the world!

Kalinda will again be participating in this event on the 25th of May. The chosen book this year is The Speedy Sloth, written by Rebecca Young, and illustrated by Heath McKenzie.

#KalindaWinterReads

May-June-July

Hygge (noun): a Danish word for the feeling of cosiness in winter that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candlesbakingspending time at home with your family

…or curling up in a cosy armchair with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book!

This winter, we’ll be asking YOU to recommend to your classmates and schoolmates your favourite comfort reads. From beautiful picture stories to fascinating non-fiction books to chapter books that take you to another world, we want to know which books give you a feeling of ‘Hygge.’

More information to come.
