Student learning around KPS

Color Run

On Thursday 30th March, we had our Colour Run. The rain held off, and we all caught some colour.

A big thank you to all Parents and Friends Association for all the work they did organising, and the volunteers who helped on the day. These events cannot be held without help and planning.

GRIP Student Leadership Conferences

The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as school leaders.

A small group of our student leaders attended the conference at the Convention and Exhibition Centre. They travelled with a staff member on public transport, into the city for the day's event.

Grade 2

Throughout our Investigations unit on ‘Healthy Us’, the Grade 1s and 2s explored different ways we care for our bodies and minds. They demonstrated this understanding by creating an avatar and listing ways it could look after itself.

Grade 6

Please enjoy the above writing from Grade 6T.

STEM

Please enjoy these stories from our Grade 2 students about what they are doing in STEM.

The bugs they are writing about have a 4-stage life cycle and are called Darkling beetles.

In the STEM rooms, we have these beetles.

Tomodachi project

Introducing our semester one Tomodachi project members: Mitchell, Lazar, Alyssa, Scarlett, Marcus, and Charlye.

Our Tomodachi project has kicked off this term with our first meeting held recently with our sister school students from Lilyvale Primary School in Mito Japan. Our Year six Tomodachi Project members did a wonderful job of introducing themselves in Japanese. We then listened to the Japanese students introduce themselves in English – they were fabulous!

After our introductions, we played a spelling game where our students tried to spell the names of the Japanese students and they tried to spell our names in English.

The first meeting seemed to go very quickly, and our grade six students were sad it was over so fast.

We hope to meet them again before the end of Term 1 and many more times in Term 2.

What a great start to our Tomodachi project.

Sayonara for now!

Flanagan Sensei

Yuri visits Kalinda

Our junior Japanese students welcomed Yuri to their class recently. Yuri is from Soma City in Japan; a town, 28kms from Fukushima, and is on holiday with family and friends in Melbourne.

Yuri is 12 years old and for four days a week, all her school classes are in English, with only one day when the students and teachers speak Japanese. Because of this, Yuri speaks very good English.

The students were interested to hear Yuri give a talk about her family and the many traditions associated with the festivities held in the area where they live.

Yuri’s father holds the position of Commanding Chief; one handed down through many Samurai generations.

White Sensei gave all the students an opportunity to ask questions of Yuri which she enthusiastically answered – some in English, some in Japanese.

Upon farewelling the class, Yuri gave a poster of her father in traditional festival dress and the students thanked her and farewelled her in Japanese.

Thank you, White Sensei and students, for making Yuri feel so welcome on her visit.

Art

I’d like to introduce Ashly K and Alina I from Grade 6 as this year’s Art Monitors. They were selected by me to fill the role and will help with jobs such as setting up the Art Room, unpacking the racks, and putting work away, as well as occasionally assisting with junior classes.

Congratulations to Alina and Ashly.
