Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.

We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

A great way to end the term

It has been a great first term at school, and it has really finished off in a way that has been so enjoyable

Throughout these last few weeks, we have had so much on, including our Colour Run, Harmony Day concert, and open Performing Arts classes in Foundation and 1/2. These events have allowed parents to come along and be connected with our school, and most importantly they have been fun.

Having fun and creating great memories at school are so important to student engagement. These big events are highlights that our students can look back on for years to come.

As well as having fun at these major events, we try to make sure we have fun with our students as they learn in the classroom each day. One of the things I love most about our school is the laughter and smiles I see as I walk through the classrooms each day.

When we are having fun, it releases dopamine. This dopamine makes us feel good, it helps with motivation and with memory. There is a lot of science and evidence that support the importance of having fun at school, and this is something we continue to foster and support at school every day. We are serious about having a good time.

Thank you so much to every family who has come along to a school event, volunteered to help, supported the school in any way, or just connected with your children through chatting about their learning.

I hope you all have a nice holiday, that is full of laughter and happiness.

Pre-Review Self Evaluation

Next term we will undertake our School Review. This happens every 4 years in schools and gives us the chance to analyse what is going well, what we can do better, and find the little things we can adjust to improve learning and well-being at our school.

Leading up to the review there is a lot of work involved in our own self-evaluation. School leaders and staff have spent a lot of time looking at our school results and how these have progressed over the last four years. These results have been really positive, and it has been pleasing for teachers to see the results of the hard work they continue to put in.

This week we have held several parent and student forums to hear their perspectives on teaching, learning, and wellbeing at Kalinda. I would like to thank the parents and students who were randomly selected to take part in these forums. The feedback provided was invaluable and will help improve the school as we develop our next Strategic Plan during the review process.
