FOUNDATION COMMUNITY

Students have been practising line work in art and are creating an art work based on different lines. They have watched a story called "Lines that Wiggle" and have used this book as inspiration to create their own picture using all different types of lines. Students have been able to recognise straight, wavy, swirl, arch, criss-cross, zig-zag and lines that loop. The picture below from the book has been used as inspiration for their art work.

1/2 COMMUNITY

Students have continued working on their strokes techniques, they have been using watercolour and oil pastels. They have been using Australian Artist Ken Done for inspiration, who uses big and bold strokes to create his artworks. This also helps students learn about colour and creating vibrant artworks with colour choice.

These images are some of Ken Done's artworks that have been used as inspiration.

3/4 COMMUNITY

Students have been working on learning about contrast and the different principles to create contrast in images. Contrast principles consists of black and white, colour, scale and pattern.

Scale focusses on shape and positioning and the layout of the shapes. Pattern refers to using different patterns that contrast against each other.

5/6 COMMUNITY

Students in 5/6 are completing their illusion or sketch work. They explored both this term and then were given the option to complete a sketch piece or an illusion piece of their final copy. With sketch, they learnt about how to build a sketch using grey lead pencil, they learnt about creating simple shapes and then how to shade and blend their image, this came with challenges as they had to start with a soft technique and then build on it. With illusions, students explored and researched many different illusions and challenged themselves in creating their own or recreating one with their twist on it.

Here are some examples for reference:

ART SMOCKS

A reminder, if your child has an old t-shirt or a top spare, please consider sending this to school as an art smock. I have set up art smock tubs for each class so students may bring them and store them at school. This will help, if students are working with materials like paint or clay and prevent getting other materials on their uniforms. Please send their art smocks (again a spare top or if you prefer to purchase a smock you can) with their name and grade clearly labelled, these can then be placed in class tubs to prevent lost property.

Thank you for your understanding.

The students of Aitken Hill have been working so hard on their skills and techniques on their art projects.

They have taken on board what they have learnt and it is translating into their artwork.

Thank you,

Rebecca
