  • Arron Li, Class of 2016 (Human Resource Associate at the IKEA Group) – Year 10 Pathways Interview skills

Arron Li,  Keysborough College graduate of 2016, and now HR Manager at IKEA, and his team joined the Year 10s to share tips about writing resumés and advice on job interviews.

He held a very helpful and informative session helping the Year 10s learn about what an employer wants to see in a potential employee.

Since many students are starting to search for jobs in Year 10, learning to deliver the best impression during an interview and having a resumé that stands out is something that many students found useful.

The Year 10 captains described the IKEA teams presentation in their pathways class as 'inspirational' and 'educational'. Other students described it as 'helpful' as they did not know what should go on a resume. Another student described it as 'insightful', because it gave them a checklist on things to do before and during a job interview.

While many students have written their resumés, the additional help gives them the opportunity to understand how to be distinctive as opposed to others who may apply. We are extremely grateful towards Arron and his team for all the tips and tricks he gave the Year 10s.

On Friday 31st of March, student leaders and Interact Club members from both Acacia and Banksia came together to take part in a Kids in Philanthropy (KIP) program. KIP is an organisation that works with local charities to spread awareness about how young people can get involved and help people in need within their community. KIP brought along representatives from 3 different charities; the Father Bob Maguire Foundation, YSAS Dandenong (Youth Support and Advocacy Service), and Stride Education. The representatives introduced their charities to the students, spoke about what services and supports they provide, and gave the students the opportunity to do some hands-on activities in creating goods for people in need.

In just over 2 hours, our leaders and Interact teams created almost 700 morning tea kits, breakfast on-the-go bags, and handmade cards! That’s 700 people in need that they will be helping in some way! When asked about how they felt doing these activities, the students reflected on the positive feelings they had about being able to help people less fortunate than themselves and hoped to be able to do more of this in the future.

Incredible work by the students involved, your teachers were so proud to see how engaged and enthusiastic you were and the guest presenters spoke multiple times about how respectful, thoughtful and positive the students at Keysborough College are! A lovely way to end the term!
