Junior School Report

What an amazing first term we have continued to have in our Junior school. Students have really embraced being back and it has been very exciting to see so many students getting involved in all the College activities on offer. We have had everything from Interschool Sport, Drama performances, Excursions, Assemblies, Camps, House activities & Student leadership programs on offer. The Year 7 & 9 students have just finished their NAPLAN assessments with testing occurring in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Mathematics, families can expect to receive the results in late July.

Both Campuses were open to the public for our annual Open Night tours. Open night is a highlight in the community allowing Keysborough Secondary College to open its doors to

prospective families, showcasing the amazing work of our students and all the opportunities we provide our students.

The support given by our Junior School student leaders in the running of tours and student helpers with classroom presentations is really appreciated and contributed to the success of the evening.

Our Year 7 students have now settled into the college and are starting to make their mark around the school. We are very proud to announce the Year 7 Captains for 2023 Acacia campus: Saugat Tandan and Oliana Heng, and Banksia campus: Ashmeen Kaur and Hedi Smida. The captains had their first formal duty presenting the RED awards to the Year 7 award winners at our Term 1 campus assembly and have been out representing the college at our local Primary schools, as part of the transition program. Our Year 7 Students went on their first excursion to the Enchanted Maze in Mornington, these excursions provide opportunities for students to form friendships while working collaboratively with their peers.

The Year 8’s have had a big term heading out on excursions to Ricketts point to complete their Geography field work task as part of their Humanities Common Assessment Task and enjoyed a trip to Luna Park. They have only just returned from their very exciting 3 day camp at Camp Allambee. Going to camp allows students to experience environments that they may not ever have the opportunity to learn about and to try activities that develop problem solving skills and teamwork. Camp is often a highlight of the year for many students and can help form the basis of many lifelong friendships.

Students in Year 9 have also had an opportunity to head out on Geography field trips to Springvale & Dandenong, these practical excursions allow students to practise their newly learnt skills in a real world setting. Students also participated in the Pat Cronin - Be Wise presentation. An educational program designed to inform students on the issue of social violence and provide age appropriate strategies to help young people deal with the issue.

As we move into Term 2 we would like to see all the students return in full uniform, remember PE uniform is only to be worn on your timetabled PE days and black puffer jackets are not part of the winter uniform. During the term students will continue to be given opportunities to participate in a variety of educational programs to assist with enhancing their learning and engagement with subjects, and further excursions for Geography, Science and Chinese.

Finally, we hope that everyone has now viewed their Progress Reports via Compass and had an opportunity to discuss their progress with teachers during our Parent Teacher Interviews. Each new term gives us a fresh start, we encourage you to try and implement the advice you received and work toward embedding the College 5P Learning Behaviours in the classroom, so that you can make the most of your education at Keysborough College.

Wishing you a very safe break
