Senior School Report

As we draw to the end of our first term, we are tremendously proud of the wide range of programs, events and experiences we have been able to offer our senior students. They have been engaged in their classwork and assessment tasks as well as a variety of wider curriculum activities. Our Student Leadership Executive team attended the Young Leaders Youth Leadership Conference in Melbourne and have already managed a number of whole school activities such as the Valentines Day Fundraiser and Harmony Day celebrations, as well as building their leadership capacity through programs with ABCN, Skyline and Monash Mentors.

The new VCE- Vocational Major (VCE-VM) program has commenced offering a pathway into; apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training and university through alternative entry programs. We continue to provide Pathway opportunities for all of our Year 10, VCE and VCE-VM students with visits to RMIT and Federation University this term and planned visits to the Careers expo and other Universities and Trade exhibitions next term.

We are focused on our students achieving high outcomes as we have high expectations and we provide study support options across all levels in Senior School. Our Year 12 students are committed and have been attending the Study Buddies Program, where the College provides tutors in English and Mathematics after school three times a week.

We encourage our students and parents to reflect on their first Progress Report and the advice from Teachers on Parent Teacher night to review learning goals and focus on the 5Ps Learning Behaviours. High achieving students have shared their successes over the years and we have noted some of their key suggestions below.

  1. Create a study timetable and stick to it.
  2. Don’t study with a mobile phone or devices – they can be a distraction.
  3. Practice applying your knowledge – not just remembering it.
  4. Use mind maps and tables to summarise the main points.
  5. Make sure you get enough sleep and exercise.
  6. Study time includes revision of work covered, not just homework.
  7. Make sure that you regularly complete homework and revise.

Wishing you all a safe term holiday break.
