College Principal Report
This week brings to a close a term in which much has been achieved, while also presenting challenges.
It has been a full term, with NAPLAN assessments conducted for the first time in March rather than May and we have have progressed delivery of the new Victorian Certificate of Education vocational major and the Victorian Pathways Certificate, giving students a better set of senior secondary options aligned to their strengths and interests.
We have welcomed thirty- five new staff to the school and they have settled in well, bringing a range of experience and expertise with them.
I wish all of our community a safe and enjoyable term break and i look forward to seeing you in Term Two
Department of Education priorities for 2023
At a recent Southern Metropolitan Area Principals conference we were informed that the following three initiatives would be the main focus of change within school in 2023 :
- Inclusive education
- Mental health menu and support
- Senior secondary reforms
School priorities: For our students we will also - as in 2022 - continue to be focussed on both the Learning and their Wellbeing of our students.
- Learning - Support both those who need scaffolding and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning, especially in numeracy.
- Wellbeing - Effectively mobilise available resources to support students' wellbeing and mental health, especially the most vulnerable.
School zones and enrolment information for 2024
Important updates to school zones and enrolment information come into effect from Term 2, 2023. These include:
- school zones for the 2024 school year
- a simplified priority order of placement in the Placement Policy, including to make it clearer that students living within the zone are guaranteed a place at their local school
- an updated enrolment form and new application form, which reflect requirements of privacy law and department policies
Please note that the school zones for both campuses of Keysborough College have not changed
Updates to the Placement Policy
The Placement Policy has been updated to give schools, parents and carers greater clarity and to support consistent and fair decision-making.
The updated policy will come into effect from the start of Term 2, 2023, and will apply to all mid-year transfers and 2024 enrolment applications, unless otherwise specified.
The updated Placement Policy includes a simplified priority order of placement, which is used to prioritise enrolment applications from outside the school zone. Students living within the school zone have been removed from the priority order as they are guaranteed entry to their local school.
The priority order of placement is now:
- students with a sibling at the same permanent address who is attending the school at the same time
- all other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.
Students from outside the school zone will no longer be prioritised for enrolment based on curriculum grounds. Enrolment on compassionate grounds remains in the Placement Policy as an overarching consideration.
Please note that the updated Placements Policy can be viewed on our website
School Numbers:
We have recently (28th February) completed the School Census which confirmed a total of 2001 students at the school. This is up by 60 students on the same time last year and we continue to grow at Year 7.
