Wednesday 5th | Holy Week Student Led Liturgy 2pm |
Congratulations to Ruby and Levi from 3/4K who celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation on Wednesday 8th March.
Throughout their preparation and at the Sacrament the students were reminded that God loves us very much and God’s love is expressed to us in love, compassion, forgiveness and mercy. This is why we talk about celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation; it is a sacrament of healing and peace.
The students explored stories from the bible that show God’s love for us in many ways and how Jesus loved and forgave everyone, including those who made poor choices and asked to be forgiven. They connected their learnings to their own lives, with an invitation to make peace and being peacemakers.
We are so proud of Ruby and Levi and the inspiring way they prepared for the Sacrament and represented St Mary’s.
On Friday the 17th of March four year six leaders, Mason, Rachel, Zarnah and Kristina went to St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne to represent our school at the St Patrick’s Day Catholic Education Week Mass. The Cathedral was full of staff and students from schools all across the Archdiocese of Melbourne. We attended with our wonderful Religious Education Leader, Miss Dullard, along with staff and students from St Brendan’s Somerville and St Joseph’s Crib Point.
We participated in the Mass of St Patrick for Schools, the Principal Celebrant was Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter Comensoli. We were astonished by the stunning cathedral and all the hymns that were sung by talented students. Beautiful songs were played by the talented violinists and other musicians.
Following Mass we attended a concert in the Treasury Gardens where many Catholic Secondary School bands played for us.
Some of our highlights of the day were,
“All of us dancing and singing at the concert” - Zarnah
“All of us being together in the mass” - Mason
“Seeing all the amazing schools that reached amazing milestones and the banner procession at mass” - Kristina
“Having fun at the concert with my friends” - Rachel
“The respectful, compassionate & inspiring way our leaders represented St Mary’s. Celebrating Catholic Education Week Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral on St Patrick’s day with schools across the Melbourne Archdiocese was a very special experience” - Miss Dullard.
