NAPLAN Testing 2023

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students are now held in March each year. In 2023, the NAPLAN Online test window is between Wednesday 15 March and Monday 27 March. Year 9 students will commence their testing program on 15 March and Year 7 students commence on 20 March, after Year 7 Camp.

The detailed schedule is included in the NAPLAN information letter sent via Operoo. The schedule and a range of other important information about the tests is also available on the SEQTA NAPLAN Portal Page. In addition to schedules, parent communications and demonstration online tests, you will find a range of practice tests that the students can use in preparation.

NAPLAN Tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents and teachers and can be used to increase student-learning progress.

Extra Classes, Tutorials and Homework Help

As previously outlined in the Marian News, we are offering a range of extra classes, tutorials and homework help for our Marian students.

The Period 5 Maths Class, for students in Years 7 to 12, runs every Thursday from 3.05 - 4.15 in the Louise Cleary Learning Centre (downstairs). Five experienced Maths teachers are on hand to teach content and skills, provide tutorial support or revision, including exam practice, as well as extension work. All Maths students are encouraged to attend.

For students in Years 7 to 10, Monday Homework Help runs every Monday afternoon from 3.05 – 4.15 pm in the Louise Cleary Year 9/10 Building (downstairs). Ms Amanda Zalac provides support with homework, study and revision to students in any year levels. Ms Zalac is an experienced English, Humanities and LOTE teacher and is able to assist students with a range of subjects and study techniques.

VCE students have access to Maths, English and Visual Arts/Technology tutorial sessions every Wednesday morning in Period 1 if they do not have a scheduled SAC. In addition, a full program of other extra VCE classes and tutorials will be sent via Operoo this week and will be published on SEQTA Learn and Engage.

Parent – Teacher – Student Conferences

After successfully offering parent - teacher - student conferences remotely in 2020 - 2022, we will utilise this option for our first subject-based conferences for the year. This will ensure that we are able to cater for the large number of bookings, whilst minimising disruptions to the student-learning program. It also supports both staff and students to maintain their remote learning skills, which have proven valuable.

To maximise booking potential, the interviews are being run over two days for different year level groups.

Day 1: Thursday, 30 March, from 2.00 – 8.00 pm for Years 8, 9 and 11 (including Year 10s in a Unit 1/2 Study)

Day 2: Tuesday, 4 April, from 2.00 – 8.00 pm for Years 7, 10 and 12 (including Year 11s in a Unit 3/4 Study)

On each of these days, students will learn from home and four remote academic classes will run until 1.00 pm before a lunch break and the commencement of the conferences. Booking details will be sent to all families soon.
