Student Wellbeing

Welcome to March

As we now settle into the term and holidays are now only a memory we remind you of important information in our planning moving forward…

Attendance Information

As part of our continual monitoring of student attendance and absence, we remind all of our families of the importance of informing us of student absence so it can be recorded on our Learning Management system.

We have a dedicated phone line to leave messages to record student absence and once roll call has been taken in the morning, the office will begin to call to verify all student absences that have not been confirmed via the phone system or email.  The expectation of explaining student absence is a government expectation.

Students that have five unexplained absences and have not responded to the absence follow up letters distributed by homeroom teachers, will then receive a letter from the College asking to explain the absences.

Those students who have continual absences will need to be followed up with parent meetings that will involve looking at ways the school can support the family in getting their child to school.

We know that every day counts in terms of student learning and in their ability to meet the benchmarks in their growth as a learner.

We thank all of those families who support the process daily of contacting to inform us of the absence of their child.

Office Procedures

We also remind all families of the process that we have in place if a student needs to leave early over the course of the day. If a medical appointment is known in advance then we require a note to be given to the homeroom teacher in the morning . The homeroom teacher will then provide the student with a leaving early pass that the student will hand to the office when they are picked up.

If a student feels unwell over the course of the day, they will be instructed to go to Sick Bay. The Student Receptionist will then call home and arrange for your child to be collected. We are unable to send any student home on public transport or via services such as Uber. They will need to be picked up by someone on our system.  We remind all of our families that students should not be contacting home themselves but arranging this process through the office.

We also know that sometimes over the course of the day there is a need to collect your child early when an emergency arises. Please be aware that some time may be needed to locate the student and organise for them to come to the office. We thank-you for your support and patience with this process.

Parent contact details validation in Operoo

In the coming week parents/guardians will be asked to confirm and update current contact details in Operoo. This will occur twice a year. All contact details including address, email and phone numbers will need to be checked and amended if necessary to ensure the College has the most up to date information.

Our office staff will contact families that initiate changes to their details to validate and confirm these over the phone. We ask that this request be completed promptly to ensure that your child/ren can attend any upcoming incursions and/or excursions.

A reminder email will be sent until this request is actioned. Should you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact our office staff who will be more than happy to help.

If you require further assistance with this, please make a time to come into the College.

Uniform Reminders

As we approach Term 2, we remind all of our families of the need to organise the winter uniform for their child.

Please see below the dates organised by Noone, our uniform supplier, as well as the process for families, especially Year 7 families, to organise an appointment.

The expectation is that all students will transition to our winter uniform options at the beginning of Term 2.

A reminder that our uniform shop is open on Wednesday and Friday between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm to facilitate this process as well.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS - no change to operation and the store will be open normal trading hours as for during term time.

WINTER FITTINGS:Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 April, 3.30 – 6.00 pm.  The calendar for booking on our website will be open tomorrow.

SUMMER FITTINGS FOR 2024: Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 October 2023.  I will send through an information letter for bookings for parents as usual.

Concerns regarding VAPING

We have been alerted by members of our community of the concerns related to the issue of VAPING amongst our young people and the possibility that this may be taking place on our bus services on the way to and from school.

We remind students and families that the same process will be applied as is in place if students are caught vaping on school grounds. We will also apply the same process to students standing waiting for the bus service whilst in school uniform.

For this offence students will be suspended and a re-entry interview will take place with the family before students can return to school.

We recognise that this has become an issue in society and are working with the community police and outside agencies to ensure our students aware of effects of this concerns.

Behaviour Management Document sent to our new families

Families of our Year 7 students and new families to the school at other levels will be receiving by mail a copy of our Behaviour Management process.

The document explains the Rights and Responsibilities as members of our community and the process followed if College expectations are not met.

We ask all of our families to place this document on their fridge as a quick reference point of the behaviour management process at Marian.
