Faith and Mission
This year the Year 9/10 students have been engaging in our new Religious Education elective units. Throughout the year, we will share a range of work and reflections based on the work the students produce through their new learnings.
Below are some examples of work undertaken in Heroes and Saints. Students have been exploring historical and modern day heroes such as Biblical women, Moira Kelly, Sr Brigid Arthur and WIlliam Cooper. One historical influencer has been St Paul. Reading some of St Paul’s letters in the Bible, the students reflected on why he and his followers wrote to varying communities and in doing so, discovered there was a set structure for his letters.
- Greeting: The letters usually began with a blessing to the people to whom the letter was addressed.
- Prayer: After the greeting follows a prayer where Paul places himself and his audience in the presence of God.
- An important teaching: A message inviting the audience to live up to what he was teaching them, giving them practical advice about living in Jesus’ footsteps and giving their worries to him and encouraging them to love their neighbours.
- Farewell: Often in the form of a blessing.
The students were then tasked with writing a modern day Twitter message using the structure above to a chosen audience.
Here are a few examples of their work:

Welcome to fellow students and friends. We thank God for allowing us to receive a good education. We pray that God gives us the strength to make it through this school year, filled with blessings. May we all get along with each other, for God has stated that we shall love our neighbours, and it is one of the 10 Commandments he has instructed us to follow. I bless thee in the name of the Lord, Amen.

Dear my fellow classmates and teachers. Let us give thanks to God. Let our hearts rejoice in You. There is no one like You Lord. Lift out your hand for us and keep us from hardship and suffering so that we will be free from pain. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:1–2) Working hard can lead to great success, remember to persevere as the Lord blesses you. God gives us what we need. May God sanctify you, may you be blessed by him. Farewell, for He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings, His faithful promises are your armor and protection. (Psalm 91:2-4)

To all God’s people. Remember that the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ is with you at all times, and for those who do not believe, the presence of Him and good energy will stand by you. Treat others how you would want to be treated, love and care for your neighbors. Go with this message and spread the Word.

Hello everyone. Dear God, I pray that everyone will be inspired by each other and the Lord, in order to act as Jesus did. In Jesus' name we pray for everyone to follow in God’s footsteps. The message of this prayer states Jesus is our leader and we should be looking up to him and follow his mission. Everyone in the community should work together to support each other and the world we live in. Go forth and be a Jesus follower in your way

A letter to all followers of Christ. We pray for the hurt and the unwell. Lord, forgive us of our sins and grant us peace in our minds, soul, and body. Lord, please fill me with lots of strength and passion as we may have had tough times. We pray for ourselves, our family, and our friends for all the love and joy they bring us. People, you have been called to spread the Word of God to everyone. Do not be ashamed to do this. Help everyone to find salvation through Jesus. Spread the Word to your family, friends, and your neighbours. We may often change from time to time, from those who would be constant in happiness and wisdom but in Jesus we will find peace. Farewell.
