Did you know?

Infrastructure in Sunshine West was still being developed in the early days of Marian College. Here's a newspaper article from 1961 showing the state of the roads.

This is the muddy road to school for children attending Marian College, Sunshine. Today's picture was taken outside the school in Glengala-rd. And to get from here into the school they have to "walk the plank" over heaps of mud and pools of stagnant water. Planks laid across the mud and over a rough gutter keep the children's feet dry on days like today. But nuns at the college said the approaches to the school were a "sheet of water" after rain. Nearly half the 500 pupils stayed home during last month's downpours.

Last night, 140 pupils from the college were among 250 members of a deputation which pleaded with Sunshine Council to repair the road and footpath. The council referred the complaints to its finance committee. The sisters said school buses from Sunshine, Ardeer and Deer Park stopped a quarter-mile away from the college, at the end of the bitumen road.
