Year 10 Italian: Masterchef Italia

As part of our Year 10 Italian course, Masterchef Italia, and to celebrate the end of Carnevale, students recently participated in a cooking activity, where they created Italian sweet biscuits, Castagnole al forno. This is a regional recipe eaten during the period of Carnevale. 

Students were provided a recipe in Italian and needed to make use of language studied so far during the course to enable them to recreate the recipe in small groups. In order to complete the task, students were required to collect ingredients, understanding the quantities required and then to follow instructions to create the recipe. The activity was an authentic test of students’ language skills and enabled them to become more confident in their ability to comprehend written instructions in Italian. They were very excited to take home the final product at the end of the lesson.

Welcome to semester 1 LOTE 2023.  Students were supported in several classes with the opportunity to select the goals they are working towards throughout their unit of study. Students were provided with the opportunity to reflect on aspects for learning development with a particular focus on Marian Learner qualities involving a Growth Mindset. These were sessions where students were able to discuss their goals with their peers. Students are learning about the keys to success by setting goals they can work towards strengthening their own purpose for learning a LOTE. Some goals students mentioned revolved around ‘Time Management, or to practice Well-being techniques. The Goals set are for students to have a focus on and to try to work towards it. Students are encouraged to discuss with their families the importance of goals throughout the unit.
