Foundation
This week in Foundation, we have been exploring the Days of the Week! We started by singing a song to help us remember the order of the days of the week. Then, in pairs, students had to try and sort the days of the week into the correct order. Students used picture cues, as well as the starting letter of each day, to help put them in order.
Year 1/2
The Marshmallow Challenge
After hearing about all the fun Year 2/3 and Year 3/4 had with their marshmallows and toothpicks, we decided to have a turn...
We had lots of fun because we got to make a house with two swimming pools. We had fun connecting the marshmallows together with the toothpicks. We had to work together as a team. We had to stay focused and we had to be very careful so it wouldn’t fall down. We can’t believe the marshmallows turned into slime in our hands! Aylah, Hanny, Jazlyn, William and Jessica.
We had to be very resilient because our chicken kept falling apart. When we stopped, it broke and that is why we decided to make a cube instead. Connor and Lance.
We made a house and a little bunny with a big bunny outside. We were very creative because we had different ideas about what to make. We had to be respectful of our friends even if we didn’t like their ideas. We had fun making a bunny house out of marshmallows! Tazlyn, Rayzon, Sharlotte and Suzanna.
We all thought about ideas, the girls thought about making a castle and the boys thought about making a standing obstacle course for Sonic. We decided that we would try to make an obstacle course with a castle. In the end we ended up creating the obstacle course because the castle kept tilting. We were very resilient because although it kept falling, we would still try. We used the learning disposition 'Creativity', when we thought of new ideas. We think we did a very good job! Eklavya, Madelyn, Mia and Lawrence.
In our group, we built a dragon snake with all the marshmallows we had. We had to help each other by putting the marshmallows together and making sure they stuck. We had to work together and listen to each other's ideas to figure out how to make the head stand up. Luke, Billy, Joseph and Kaiden.
Year 2/3
We made a love heart with our sticks and leaves. We also got some red leaves and then in another heart. We all discussed what we were going to make and where we should put the hearts and the leaves and sticks. Shamus, Georgia, Olivia.
We made a leaf man. We made him fly in the sky. He has a very small mustache. So, at first we had some disagreements but we worked them out at the end. It was a lot of fun working together. Laura, Tristen, Benjermen.
We made a park with our plants: we drew swings, a slide and a treehouse. We worked together to make our creation. We were proud of our creation that we made.
Eva, Katalina, Cody.
Before we made our art piece, our group talked about what we were going to make. We used different materials to make our art piece. We made a cat and a tree with a treehouse on it. We had a lot of fun! Kushi, Viraj, Amy
It was a fun experience making our creation with the pieces from the environment. We had leaves, flowers, sticks and also some eucalyptus leaves. We were all communicating to make one big creation. Raffaele, Arvin, Christopher, Emma
We worked well together and we had so much fun doing our art work. We had fun sticking everything together. Our picture was of people looking at our art.

Year 3/4
This week we had a visit from the Local Police. Officer Andrew spoke with the students about Cyber Safety.
PRESTON POLICE TALK WITH YEAR 3/4 STUDENTS ABOUT CYBER SAFETY
By Allie, Emma, Roman and Sai (Student Reporters)
On the 14th of March, 2023 a Preston Police Officer came to visit Year 3/4, at Sacred Heart, to teach us about Cyber Safety.
The Preston Police officer called Andrew taught us about Cyber bullying and how it’s a crime! He told us how long a computer can break our password and Andrew’s password will take 464 years for a computer to break in!
After that we learnt about the MCG test, [Not sport related]. What it does is, they put a message on the big screen and see how many people get negative or positive reactions to it. Then he told us about a story of his son on Twitter. So one day Andrew’s son was on Twitter and he looked at his son’s Twitter followers, and one turned out to be an American abuser so then his son stopped using Twitter, and that is a good thing.
Stay safe online!

This year the 3/4s had a visit from the Preston Police Department. The Police Officer’s name was Andrew and he taught us about Cyber safety and how to stay safe online.
Never bully people online or in person, it’s called ‘’Cyber bullying,’’ Cyber Bullying is a crime when you’re ten and you will get arrested. Another way to check if your comment is okay to say is the ‘’MCG test .’’ The MCG test is a test that Andrew taught us. The test is if you send a message to let’s say your friend, is it a good message for everyone to see on the big MCG screen or is it a bad message that you don’t want anyone to see. If it’s a good one, send it. If it’s a bad one don’t send it.
Another thing Andrew taught us is the kidshelpline, kidshelpline is a children's helpline that helps all kids 24/7, about anything anywhere. So if you need help call: 1800 55 1800, or go to their website: www.kidshelpline.com.au
Cyber Security at Sacred Heart!
by Gail C, Lauren A, Maxie S, Azariah A.
Andrew from Preston police station visited Sacred Heart Primary School and he taught us more about how to be safe online. He discussed unknown people online, cyber - bullying is a crime that we should never commit. He tried to tell us to not click suspicious links but we already knew about that.
He said that we should never share personal info otherwise if you do bad things can happen to you. He also told us about a website and how you use it to check your password. It’ll tell you how long it will take for a hacker to hack your device.
He taught us so many things we didn't know and in conclusion we now know how to stay safe online!
Thanks Andrew!

The Police Officer Andrew, came and taught us about cyber safety, he taught us how to be safe online by using some links and showing us his presentation.
We learnt about the MCG test, it means if you think that the person you are texting wouldn’t like the message on the MCG screen, then don’t text that message otherwise you fail the MCG test.
He also told us about how to stay safe online. If someone asks for personal information you shouldn’t answer it because they might be pretending to be someone they're not, and do bad things to you.
If you share something online and get bullied, call a trusted adult to solve the problem instead of solving it yourself because you might make it even worse.
Remember to be unsafe online and be super safe.

Andrew the Police Officer told us not to share private information including passwords, usernames, age, Etc.
Cyber safety is extremely important because cyber bullying is a crime. If you're over 10 years and found cyber bullying you may get arrested.
Every time you send a message think about the M.C.G. test. The M.C.G. test is every time you send a message think about if the other person will like it if this message pops up on the M.C.G. screen or if it is kind of embarrassing for the other person.
Finally Officer Andrew also said that you should have a strong password, how long will it take for a computer to break your password? Visit security.org/how-secure-is-my-password/ to check if your password is strong.
PS: Report/ block people you feel uncomfortable around.
The Police Visit Sacred Heart
By Isabella, Jasmine and Massie
Today at Sacred Heart a policeman named Andrew came to grade 3/4 to teach them about cyber safety.
Andrew talked about cyber safety. A few things he talked about were safe passwords by using passphrases, like BigSharksEatApples, or SharpenPencilsToWrite! If you don’t know if your message is fine to send, think about saying it to your mum, and if she would be angry, it wouldn’t be okay to send. Andrew said not to share your private information to people you don’t know, like your real name or where you live, Etc.
The police visit was amazing!!! If you feel uncomfortable because you were bullied or hurt you can call kidshelpline on 1800 55 1800 or kidshelpline.com.au and remember, it is fine to share things with your family!
Year 5/6
CYBER SAFETY VISIT FROM ANDREW, POLICEMAN, PRESTON POLICE
Did you know....
# that the average age of a person playing games online is 40 !
That was enough information to get our senior students interested. Most of the class put the average age at 5-10 years old, so it came as a bit of a shock to them.
# that over half (53%) of all crime that is committed happens online!
That also came as a bit of a shock for the senior students. Passing information online about yourself is fraught with danger. Andrew spoke about safe passwords as well.
# 10% of people who follow you on social media are not who they say they are.
Advice from Andrew...do not chat with people you do not know.
# 20% of all Australians will be bullied online.
# There is always help available!
You are not alone in navigating this ~ children were told that, whenever they feel uneasy or uncomfortable online, they don't have to solve the problem themselves. They were told that could speak to a parent, a teacher or someone they trust. And of course, there's always Kids Helpline 1800 551 800
Brain Breaks
Part of our Well Being program at school is to provide students with Brain Breaks, a short five to ten minute activity which helps students to have a short break and re-centre before beginning the next session. The senior students have been engaged in African drumming, ball skills and meditation as activities undertaken as part of our Brain Breaks.
