HSIE Historical Report Showcase

Mrs Cherie Stoessel

Year 10’s History focus this term is to develop an understanding of the historical inquiry process and its role in understanding the development of the Modern World and Australia through engagement with a personal interest project. The students had the learning experience of focusing on a particular task for about 8 weeks. They have embraced their Historical Research Project (HRP) with enthusiasm and curiosity. Some students have commented that it is their first time doing a task like this and have faced the challenges that come with it. Nevertheless, Year 10 students completed their projects in time for two showcase lessons in week 10 which were attended by members of leadership, staff and other students.  Thanks to Mr Trinh for his work in organising the successful showcase lessons.

Z-Club

Mrs Vicki Channon

On Friday 17 June, some of our keen Z-Club members and a few extra guests gathered in BTX to assemble 300 birthing kits. This has been a very long and anticipated event as we had to put it on hold during COVID.

The birthing kits consist of a plastic sheet (biodegradable), 5 cotton gauze swabs, 3 pieces of string, 1 blade, a pair of latex gloves and a soap. These are the basic ingredients needed for a safe and hygienic birth where high infant mortality is prevalent in many developing countries. The kits cost $5.00 to purchase and the Z Club this year raised funds to assemble 300 kits.

Our other big and ongoing service project is the assembly of care packages. This includes basic care products donated by the community, such as toothpastes, toothbrushes, face cloths, soaps, shampoos/conditioners/ sanitary items, and deodorants. We are always looking for donations of these items, so that we can assemble a little package and distribute them to the Armidale Women's Shelter, Vinnies, Pathfinders, and Homes North. If you can help, please contact Vicki Channon or drop off items at the front office.

Congratulations to those who are part of this great club who work to advocate for women and children in our local, and global community. What a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate care and concern for others.
