A Short Message from Dr Jake

Dear Parents & Friends,

It's been wonderful to see the students return to school this week, and the anticipation was clearly evident in the playground at drop-off as everyone spoke excitedly of returning to school. This continued for some time in the classrooms as well. It simply demonstrates how much fun it is to be part of the St Edward's family.

Term Three is always a busy term as we kick start the second half of the academic year. If you have perused the school calendar, you will note the many planned events ranging from our P&F Trivia night tomorrow night, pie drive, Grandparents Day, School Athletics Carnival, NAIDOC Week festivities and grade excursions. When we add in our daily Literacy, Numeracy and Religion blocks, the learning at St Edward's just gets better and better.

This term also kick starts our planning for the following academic year. There will be the annual parent surveys that provide information that helps our school with the forward planning process. So please keep your eye out for the link in the coming weeks.

We received a congratulatory letter from the Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC, NSW Minister for Education and Early Learning on the announcement of our school's top ten shortlisting of T4 Education's World's Best School Prize for Overcoming Adversity. You can read it here.

As you are aware, across the country a significant spike in the number of Covid cases is being driven by the highly contagious BA.5 subvariant. Please be vigilant as we work to ensure our school and community is safe. While absenteeism impacts student learning, it is important that you:

  • Stay home if unwell or showing even the mildest of symptoms
  • Keep up to date with vaccinations – including the flu vaccine, which is available from your local GP, pharmacy or Aboriginal Medical Service
  • Get tested immediately for COVID-19 if you become symptomatic and isolate until you receive a negative result and are symptom free
  • Practise good hand hygiene by washing regularly with soap and water
  • Take a RAT before visiting vulnerable loved ones or going to large gatherings and events.

Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us as we are only too happy to help.

Peace & Best Wishes
